No way the Celtics are able to afford this guy after this season, right? There are teams like the Knicks and the Bulls who I can see lining up to sign him somewhere in the 16-20 mill a season range..

He's definitely getting paid way too much this summer.

It's part of why I don't get the move.

I do find it weird that Danny traded for an expiring, which IIRC he explicitly said he wouldn’t do. Makes me suspect an extension is in play

If Danny says he won't do something it means he's thinking about it.

Ainge clearly stated this morning that he sees Fournier as someone that they plan to be here for a long time and part of the core.

Couple things about committing to Fournier:

- He's played more than 70 games in a season just 3 out of 8 full seasons in the league before this year.

- He has a career defensive rating of 112

What's a reasonable price for Fournier?  4 years $80 million?  Feels like you're gonna regret that on the back end.  He's definitely getting paid more than he makes now.

Is Fournier worth keeping if you consider that it probably requires that you use picks to dump Kemba and Thompson or Smart to avoid going super deep into the luxury tax?

Can he be the cap filler the Celtics need to get Beal?   Combination of him and Thomas (or Smart) plus young guys and draft picks?

Celtics get: Beal

Wizards gets: Smart, Fournier (signed for 4 years/$65), Langford, 2021 1st rounder, 2022 1st rounder .

I think this is a deal that could be seriously contemplated in the offseason. It may not be enough, but hey, I don’t have a clue how much superstars cost anymore since we pretty much just saw the Rockets essentially trade Harden for Olynyk, Bradley, and late first round picks lol.

Beal is an all-nba player, younger, and without James Harden's baggage. We're not ever getting him without giving up Brown.

When you see what star players are getting traded for nowadays, and you add in the fact that players are starting to dictate if they want out, I think Beal could be had in the offseason for a package that doesn't include Brown and Tatum. Of course, it'd require a lot of everything else, including likely 2 of Smart/Timelord/Fournier. But it's something I'd do.

A Tatum/Brown/Beal core with hopefully 1 of Smart/Fournier/Timelord I think could do really well, and possibly Kemba too if he isn't traded away at least for 2022 before his contract runs out.

Of course, we need Beal to actually say he wants out, and a little bit of extra recruitment from Tatum.

But really, Harden went for AB, Olynyk, and picks. James Freakin' Harden. Not saying it'd be that cheap to acquire Beal, but in all seriousness how many recent "superstar trades" have needed a lot? Anthony Davis is one. Maybe Paul George though his acquisition also got the Clips Kawhi.

When is the last time someone has given up a player at Browns level for a player of Beals level?

Oh, and Beal only gets traded if he demands a trade.   Could definitely see DC trying to get him where he wants to go.

Beal is a FA after next season. They will not get another all star in return.

He also isn't anywhere nearly as good as James Harden.  Harden is a top 5 player in the game and has been for some time.  Beal isn't even a top 10 player and may not even be a top 15 player.  Brown might actually be more valuable than Beal because Brown actually plays defense.  If they ask for Brown you hang up the phone laughing.

Won’t a lot hinge on how well Fournier fits in the balance of this season, whether he wants to stay with the Celtics?

If the fit works, we’re more likely to pay him.
