I think they will stand pat tomorrow, like how they always do.

And then watch this team get disemboweled in the playoffs.

Danny must be looking hard to do another highway robbery on another team. Too bad he doesn't know it's blowing up his face. Brooklyn's laughing at us right now for 2013. Cleveland's giggling at us for 2017.

The poll question and thread title are a bit different, but I think they go hand-in-hand.

Guys like Aaron Gordon, Harrison Barnes, John Collins, etc. are a group of players who could be traded before tomorrow's deadline, and I know people here have their preferences on who to acquire or avoid.

But basically, would you be upset if they stood pat again and did nothing?

Truth be told, I wouldn't. It's not worth investing in this team this season and I think they could use the TPE and other assets (Smart, picks, other young players) best in the offseason.

If John Collins were available though, I'd acquire him tomorrow. You add him and his cheap salary for 2021, and have his Bird Rights so you can still add another player in the offseason with the TPE to go along with Brown, Tatum and Collins (after extension; ATL doesn't want to pay him I believe). But I doubt ATL is a seller tomorrow, so either way I'd be fine if they stood pat.

Barnes and Collins aren't going to be traded. Gordon should be, but ORL has one of the worst FO's in basketball.

A deal with ORL for Gordon using the TPE, draft capital and a cheap body to keep out of the luxury tax would be a big addition since PF has been a giant black hole for us.  AG > GW, SO, + TT playing out of position and it isn't close. Then you use the rest of the TPE in the off-season to bring another mid-level player so we actually have a good starting 5 and a real bench. I think we're closer to contention than most here if we make these moves and get healthy and other than BKN. I'm not afraid of the rest of the NBA.

Edit: 15% of the minutes played at PF have been played by the Js. The other 85% have been played by end of bench players or players out of position.

I haven't watched as much this year, but it's clear that the talent is a lot better than the record. So what needs to change?

Our defense is awful, partly because our multiple switching isn’t as easily done with this roster. We also have been the worst team in the NBA in the 4th quarter. Probably a result of the bad defense and subsequent disconnected offense.

Basically we need a Hayward replacement...

Would I be angry/upset? No.

Would I be extremely disappointing?  Yes.  Because there appears to be deals out there that CAN be made that I feel would make the team singificantly better both now and in the future, and passing on those opportunities is IMO a mistake.

I haven't watched as much this year, but it's clear that the talent is a lot better than the record. So what needs to change?

Not really.

I mean, the top level talent is, sure.  The trio of Kemba  / Tatum / Brown when healthy is probably one of the top 5 trios in the NBA. The problem is that the average talent level for the other 12 or so roster spots is horrible.

* You have Smart who is a great defensive role player but also an offensive liability most the time.
* You have Timelord who has a lot of potential but is still a bit green and has had minutes limited by injury
* You have Pritchard who is a surprisingly savvy and steady player, but is ultimately still a rookie who needs time to grow
* You have Thompson who is a solid role player in that defender + rebounder role but ultimately very expendable
* You have Theis who can be a very nice player, but only seems to do it once every 5 games

So that's:
- Three excellent players
- 5 serviceable players (none of whom can score with any type of consistency)
- 9 guys who you could probably replace with some good D-Leaguers without noticing any obvious drop off

The roster is terrible and really only has 3 guys who are capable of consistently scoring.  Standing pat and waiting won't help because few (if any) of those guys outside the top 3 have any obvious potential to become consistent scorers...

And the team is over the cap, so from this offseason onward they are going to have very limited capability to make significant additions unless they give up one of those top 3 guys.

Right now they have the TPE which gives them a rare moment of flexibility.  Use it to bring in talent, and even if that talent doesn't move the needle at least it will provide additional assets that can be potentially used in the future to bring back talent that does.   If that TPE doesn't get used and is allowed to just expire, then things are looking pretty bleak..

This off season was the time to make the move DA should have taken Turner and McBuckets. Unless you are bringing in a guy who can lead, truly lead.... don't bother.

I'd give a Harden type package for SGA right now offer everyone but Tatum and Brown plus use of TPE to dump money. SGA at least plays with an edge. No one on this team has skill and determination.

I hope we make a deal but our assets are not the best.   I will still be a Celtic fan but I will be disappointed too.

If we don't make a move time to starting resting guys more and playing younger guys to passively tank.

I will be very disappointed because this team is flat out horrible to watch.

They played hard the last 16 minutes last night. Maybe they should get some kind of prize for that.

They don't pass. They don't play defense. They only play hard in spurts. They love ISO ball. They have a terrible bench. Players have no idea what their role is. Far to often 2 guys stand in the corners, while Kemba, Tatum, or Brown dribbles around for 15-20 seconds, than shoot.

I can deal with a losing team, but this is just bad basketball. Only one team wins. That's okay, but make watching the game fun. Dallas, Memphis, Charlotte, NOLA, for example. They are not going to win the championship, but I could watch them anytime.

So yes, I will be mad/disappointed in this is the team I have to watch the rest of the year.

Mildly disappointed but I'm also not sure what realistic move available right now would really move the needle for the team this season.

If Danny doesn't make a major move, he needs to go!  He has become AFRAID to make moves recently.  Afraid to give up something to get something.  He only wants "to make a killing"!  Otherwise we'd be playing Jaylen with JAMES HARDEN now!  Or we'd be playing Jaylen with ANTHONY DAVIS.  All he had to do was give up JT!  Don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather have Harden or AD on our team right now, than JT.  Heck, go for it.  Make a big move.  Can't turn out worse than what you've accomplished so far.
And on BS....C's are dead last in 4th quarter play, 83 points worse than the next team.  Who is playing those minutes, and maybe they shouldn't be.  Too often I've seen bench guys get us back in a game, only to have starters come back in and lose momentum and the game.  That's coaching!  How do you give a guy like Teague several DNPs, and then the next game play him 40 minutes?  Guys like PP and Nesmith taking turns in the doghouse?  Nobody knows their roles.  Even Doris Burke in the game last night mentioned that BStevens can't seem to make up his mind on his rotations.
And the back half of the team is horrible.  You've got two small TPE's....bring in a couple of seldom used, but capable vets to man the bench.  Nemanja Bejlica (SP?) and Hassan Whiteside come to mind, who hardly play for Sactown.  Short minutes by proven vets would sure help keep some of these games close while starters get a blow.
Come on Danny------if you're not going to do anything----then step aside for a new GM that will!

It depends on what other deals get done and what reasonably sourced deals don’t get done.

That's the hard part. We don't really know. It's not like they've had one issue all season long. Every week it's something new. They are just maddeningly inconsistent.

Well I would be angry if I had any hope of a trade being made but past experiences tell me no trade is coming (ainge does not make panic deals & there appears to be little value in the market) so I have no expectations ... so despite my dissatisfaction with the team & desire for a trade, I have no expectation of change.

I am too disengaged with the situation to be angry or upset.
