The poll question and thread title are a bit different, but I think they go hand-in-hand.

Guys like Aaron Gordon, Harrison Barnes, John Collins, etc. are a group of players who could be traded before tomorrow's deadline, and I know people here have their preferences on who to acquire or avoid.

But basically, would you be upset if they stood pat again and did nothing?

Truth be told, I wouldn't. It's not worth investing in this team this season and I think they could use the TPE and other assets (Smart, picks, other young players) best in the offseason.

If John Collins were available though, I'd acquire him tomorrow. You add him and his cheap salary for 2021, and have his Bird Rights so you can still add another player in the offseason with the TPE to go along with Brown, Tatum and Collins (after extension; ATL doesn't want to pay him I believe). But I doubt ATL is a seller tomorrow, so either way I'd be fine if they stood pat.

Yes, if only because we need to pick a direction. If we just try and wait it out with this team with no significant expiring contracts upcoming and a likely middling draft pick, what's the point? Where are we going?

If they do nothing then they are telling us that they think they are good enough "as is" OR they don't think they can compete. Either way that makes me angry. At least try to improve your teaam somehow without mortgaging the future but sometimes you need to take a chance.

Exactly.

And we need to stop pretending the TPE doesn't have an expiration date. Teams are going to squeeze Danny harder in the offseason because they know he's on the clock to use before it's gone. If there's a deal to be made tomorrow, Danny needs to do it. No more "we were close, but..." I'm sick of it.

I agree. We either need to go young or actually improve the roster. This isn't a Top 5 team in the NBA so what exactly is it we're trying to accomplish?

Not really.

I do not believe this team is a contender as currently constructed, and I do not believe that any deadline deal is going to be the difference-maker that gets us back into the discussion.  I'm not a big fan of Aaron Gordon and I don't believe we suddenly turn into a problem by adding him.

If we have an opportunity to add a legitimate piece that can help us in upcoming seasons, then by all means, take it.  But rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic isn't something that excites me.

Yeah, the TPE will only become harder to swing a home run with.

And that's just what I fear Ainge is doing. Hesitant to make any improvement because it's not a clear win for us

Agree with both of these thoughts. We need to do something - one way or the other. We've straddled the fence and been overly patient too long. Need to go full-in on picking a direction, and Danny needs to make a strong push either way.

Either lets go full-on fire sale and get what we can out of our veterans to better build around our core of Tatum, Brown, and Timelord and the rest of the promising young'uns (primarily Romeo, Prithcard, and Nesmith), or let's actually expend some capital to improve our chances now and in the near future (i.e. a Barnes, Gordon, etc. type of move).

To be honest - I'm really open to either option. I'm just not open to continuing to ride this flawed team out and try to achieve two seemingly opposed strategies at the same time.

I thought we were tanking for a pick in this good draft.  :)

If that happens, Danny has us going nowhere, especially if Brad leaves. If he does that, or is forced to do that if the truth is that nobody wants to trade with him anymore, Wyc needs to tell Brad the team is now his and Danny is retiring with Brad gaining control of roster decisions and Zarren as GM. One title in 18 years does not cut it.

Besides the Greg Monroe buyout signing they haven’t done any in-season moves in the last 5-6 years now. And it’s bugged me because other teams have done it to improve their team and to improve their chances in the playoffs. Meanwhile, even bench help you can acquire for cheap, Ainge passes on in order to keep the other bums at the end of our bench.

But with this year’s team at 21-23, I don’t even see how adding bench help changes much this season. Certainly would have over the last few seasons though  ::)

Either they need to add or subtract (if not both).  Daniel Theis is a free agent who's going to get a significant raise next year, probably more than the Celtics are willing to pay.  The team is below .500 with 28 games remaining -- if they aren't adding a player whom will help right the ship, at a minimum Theis needs to be moved for assets.  Keeping him is the same thing as sending out a pick for an expiring who won't get you over the hump.

So either get someone or trade Theis, at a minimum.  No moves would be a complete failure.

Angry? No. Disappointed. A little.

I think the least that should be on the table is a salary dump or two. Pick up some minor assets.

This team stinks and the team should start laying the groundwork for the offseason.
