"Clippers coach benches starters, down by 21, and backups lead comeback to stun Hawks"

https://www.yahoo.com/news/tyronn-lue-gets-tough-challenges-045453241.html

Last night was the night for this. Why Smart came in and played all of over time I have no idea.

I’m sorry, but putting In our G-league unit of Grant Williams, Green, Edwards, Waters, and Tacko was not going to help matters. They certainly were not going to save the day.

Why not? And if not, who is to blame?

Ainge, obviously.

Ainge has struck out on FAs and trades. Horford left. Irving left. Hayward left (they weren't going to sign him). He has a coach that doesn't like bigs. Theis starting over Rob Williams last night?

He hasn't copied the formula which brought a title in '08. Three complementary stars plus depth in role players.  Plus a veteran coach who knew the NBA.

The League is suddenly becoming NY/LA big market. FA stars joining other stars.

Stars DNP either to tank or preserve for the playoffs. The season no longer means very much.

Silver has some problems here--aside from the Celtics.  He has to make the season more meaningful and stop the tanking.

Brad is not an NBA coach.

So what's he been doing the last 8 years then?

A. OJT

B. Trying to turn the Cs into a college team.

C. Coaching scared of his own players.

D. Getting paid.

E. Banking timeouts for retirement.

F. All the above.

LOL

All those playoffs games the Celts won over the last half decade were just dumb luck I guess.

well, explain this season, please.

COVID, injuries, new additions not working out in terms of production or chemistry, half the roster is made up of young guys ....

Brad is also not having a great season.

But to go from "Brad is not doing a great job in an otherwise tough year with a very flawed roster" to "This is what Brad has been doing the last 8 years" is simply nonsense.

nonsense is a supposed NBA coach that can’t solve zone defense.
This is an incredibly weak retort, given all the accusations you were happily wielding before you got responded to.

Brad has his weaknesses, but Danny hasn’t helped him much. We’ve continually lost more talent than we’ve gained in the off-season

Incredibly weak is the effort your sacred coach has been rolling out this season.

The new formula is get half a team of good guys who are great team mates that don't produce and it is not working

Yeah, that's pretty much been the Danny/Brad (im sure Brad has significant influence over who Danny brings in) approach ever since the rebuild started, and it's becoming extremely frustrating.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the idea of bringing in nice guys who will get along with everybody and be positive role models...but it all means precisely ZERO if those guys are too soft / polite to win you a game.

Kevin Garnett, Kobe, Jordan, Draymond Green, Rasheed Wallace - none of these were polite guys who were easy to get along with, and yet everybody I just mentioned was instrumental to their team's championship efforts.  It can be advantageous to have a bit of tough love in the locker room sometimes, to help light a firecracker under the player's butts when they start to slacken off.  For a couple of years now I have felt this team is just too nice/polite - and tbh I think that starts with Brad.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Meanwhile in Portland Former Boston Bench Player goes for 19 pts and 19 board. Whiles last year's backup all wordl PG gets another DNP.

Brad is strange with who he plays. I miss AB Roxier Crowder and KO. And  Morris alot.

Can anyone else chime in on why we ne et we t to foul like to beat mismi zone in last year play out? I only got one response and I really would love to understand the why not. Maybe from some pro Brad peeps? Like do you just put that on the players to never do it?
I still imagine there’s reasoning that’s over my basketball iq.
  Thanks again.

It's very attractive to assume most or all of the problems can be blamed on one person.

If that's true, the problems are much simpler to fix.

Unfortunately the Celts problems extend beyond the coach, or specific players, or the GM.

It's a lot of things in confluence.  There is no easy fix.

All of that said, I still don't quite get why people think that the coach is the sole person responsible for poor shot selection, poor discipline, poor energy etc.  The coach isn't playing a video game.  This isn't 2K.  The coach doesn't control the players once they're on the floor.

That said there are plenty of valid criticisms of Brad, such as his inconsistent rotations and sticking with veterans like Teague well past their obvious expiration date.  I don't think that getting out-coached by Erik Spoelstra is a particularly effective criticism considering Spo is one of the best 2-3 coaches in the league.

Spo actually coaches...what a novel concept, eh?

yeah i thought it was weird how brad spent the last 6 years playing solitaire on the bench while the team played games.  really gotta give props to jay larranega for figuring out how to get the guys to play while brad just did his taxes and read ebooks.

weirder still that the celtics management decided to give him an extension after he spent all this time reading cooking recipes on the NYT website instead of making substitutions or drawing up out of bounds plays.

This thread reminds me of why I don't post here as often as I used to. A bunch of vapid hot takes that are more concerned with attacking the character of players/coaches/gms rather that distract from the actual problem with the team. No better than reddit tbh.
2023 No Top 75 Fantasy Draft Los Angeles Clippers
PG: Dennis Johnson / Jo Jo White / Stephon Marbury
SG: Sidney Moncrief / World B. Free
SF: Chris Mullin / Ron Artest
PF: Detlef Schrempf / Tom Chambers / Buck Williams

I started this thread with an Idea for Brad to light a fire under the starter's asses. I think lighting a fire under this team is the main issue with this team. When they play all out they look really good but it only happens for maybe half a game. Maybe everyone is just worn out.

I don’t know why people get bothered by “ hot takes”. I always look at forums as people just talking out loud. Spitballing ideas. EVERYONE has been guilty of what you’re saying.
One thing you can always count on in forums even more than what you’re saying is that people will accuse others of overreacting to present themselves as calm and sensible. It’s an eye roller.
Can you maybe answer my question of why the Celtics never brought a man to the foul line to receive a pass to beat Miami zone?.
