Brad is not an NBA coach.
So what's he been doing the last 8 years then?
A. OJT
B. Trying to turn the Cs into a college team.
C. Coaching scared of his own players.
D. Getting paid.
E. Banking timeouts for retirement.
F. All the above.
LOL
All those playoffs games the Celts won over the last half decade were just dumb luck I guess.
well, explain this season, please.
COVID, injuries, new additions not working out in terms of production or chemistry, half the roster is made up of young guys ....
Brad is also not having a great season.
But to go from "Brad is not doing a great job in an otherwise tough year with a very flawed roster" to "This is what Brad has been doing the last 8 years" is simply nonsense.
I feel blaming the season on those things is a bit of a cop out. Yes, the roster has issues. Yes, some guys have missed time. But those aren't the things that really concern me about this team.
What concerns me is that I don't think I've ever seen a time (in the past 10 years) where a Celtics team has shown such a lack of heart, passion and desire to win. These guys look disinterested, careless, lazy. There is no fire.
If this team had a mismatched roster with half the guys missing I would be totally ok with that
if every time the the team got on the they played hard and played smart. If they were beating bad teams that they should be beating, but were being edged out by better / more talented teams I'd be totally fine with that as long as I can see they are giving it everything they have.
In reality this team is consistently getting blown out by bottom of the barrel lottery teams, and if anything they are MORE competitive against good teams. This tells me their biggest issue is not injuries, or roster construction - because they are clearly capable of competing (even against good teams) when they can be bothered.
The biggest issue is that they play the game the wrong way (too much ISO, bad shot selection, no ball movement, inconsistent defensive effort) and seem to have zero motivation or desire. And who's job is it to keep the team motivated and tell them how to play? The coach.
So I struggle to see how anybody can be more to blame right now then Brad Stevens. Brad is a very nice, polite, laid back guy. He's clearly not the disciplinary type. I think that's why he's so good at developing young talent, because he's patient with them and helps give them confidence. But on the other side of things I think it's also why he seems to struggle with guys who have big egos - they just walk all over him.
