From his article this morning.

Boston Celtics

Among top trade targets for the Celtics: Detroit’s Jerami Grant, sources said. Grant is having a breakout season, averaging 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He is a leader for the Most Improved Player of the Year award.

Interesting

But wont come cheap

At least 3 1sts or  Smart, Nesmith or Langford and 2nd

Is my guess

LOL at 3 1sts for Jerami Grant.   ::)

Very interesting.  I certainly do not find it hard to believe that the Celtics have interest in Jerami Grant but I suspect that there is a whole lot less interest coming back the other way.  That of course will not stop me from speculating on how this might work.  The only way that I see is if we were to give say:

Walker, maybe Langford, and a Pick for Blake Griffin with the understanding that we also expect to get Grant for a second via the TPE.

Detroit gets an asset that they can flip, probably for some decent assets in the off season, a couple of picks and a decent young player plus get out from Griffin.  We get Grant.

That may not seem like such a good trade but I think that is about what it is going to take.  And Detroit might still not do this.  They can just stretch Griffin in the off season and build around Grant with picks.

Not a fan of Smart being part of a trade. He'll be needed if they want to make a run. Unless they're thinking more future than this year. But even then he's our best defensive player that makes things happen.

And so it begins...we will be "in on" talks for a half-dozen really good players, and then make a minimal, stopgap trade.

It's not a criticism, because other teams make bad trades all the time out of panic, but Ainge is so cagey about trade value that it's just how it seems to play out.

I will say that if there's a year to make a big move and sacrifice some young guys and picks, this is it. We have two All-Stars entering their primes and under contract.

Both these trade targets seem so ridiculously unlikely.

Neither team is likely going to give up either player for a price Danny would be willing to pay.

And both seem like 'over the top' trades that are beyond what Danny is probably looking for.

If these 'leaks' are even real leaks, they seem likely to have been put out simply to distract.

We are into the silly season, pre-trade deadline.   Safest to just assume most of what you hear until after the deadline is made up crap to get clicks or purposeful misinformation intended to distract.

no way Smart would or should be included...unless it's a larger thing with more parts that are irrestistable...

I'm sure it'd be mainly about our younger talent..

The thought of trading Smart for Grant makes me want to barf.

Why?

Because Smart is a better defender and offensive player than him in every way. Grant is a decent player on an awful team. Grant’s efficiency is way down in every category other than free throws. You don’t trade a player like Smart for Jerami f’in Grant.

Better at offense?

Can you expound upon that? Because Grant sure seems like he is a better scorer and better shooter. It’s weird for you to site efficiency when talking about Marcus Smart.

Marcus Smart is either Boston’s best passer or close behind Kemba. With Smart, we are a mediocre to bad passing team that scores because of its stars’ one on one talent. Without him we are bad to really bad passing team. If we have to trade Smart for Grant that problem likely gets worse.

Point well taken. I think you do trade Smart (actually in second) for Grant but Boston's passing game really needs to improve and I agree that Smart is a plus in that department.

This thread is LOTR fantasy level. Danny Ainge will never trade Marcus Smart.

Grant is a very good fit but why does this make any sense for Detroit? The guy chose to go there to be the guy and now he’s on the block? Not buying it tbh.

Unless the Cs plan to offload Kemba and pieces for the corpse of Blake Griffin and then get Grant for the TPE as a thank you? Still don’t see how that makes sense for the Cs tbh.

I posted Jerami Grant as an ideal trade target a couple of weeks ago after Scal brought it up in a podcast I was listening to.

He'd be a perfect fit for us.

He also is not getting traded by Detroit, absent a godfather offer, which we are not equipped to make.

Grant would be a nice get. I didn't realize he's only 26.  Obviously Detroit has to want to trade him and I don't see the Cs overpaying.

I wonder if DET would trade Grant for pick(s), into the Cs trade exception.  Generating a trade exception for DET then take TT into that exception for a second.

BOS gets a big wing, DET gets a good locker room vet to help mentor their young players, and it frees up minutes for RWIII with GW becoming the 3rd big.

Grant isn't a natural lead scorer, but we wouldn't need that from him. He is a monster defender with a 7'3 wingspan who could slot in as a PF. Adding Grant and Smart and subtracting Walker/Ojeleye to our starting 5 would give us a very unique defense.

I think he'd be amazing. I could see him as a perfect 3rd guy who would amplify what we have in Tatum Brown and Smart.

I'd do a deal with Kemba and another player or a 1st for Grant/Griffin in a heartbeat. Griffin's deal is over after next year, and while he is a shell of himself, he still can contribute. We would be a MUCH better team.

Wouldn't that be classic. Buy high on a guy having a breakout year when he is getting more than double his career FGAs. This would be a bad move
