Some silly GM is gonna throw him a 60 million for three years fully guaranteed deal a la Luol Deng, or Timofey Mosgov.

Naw. Come on now

Look at his stats.

No team is that crazy

I say 12 m per year would be max to outbid
I mean this seriously, what team is going to give Daniel Theis 12 million a year?  I don't think that team exists.  I really don't.  I honestly think on the open market the best he is going to do is something like 3 years, 20 million or 1 year 9 million.  There just aren't very many teams that make sense for Theis that have more than the MLE available and many will only have the Tax Payer MLE available.

He’s worth MLE imo. $9-10 mil per. He’d be very useful to a contender.

And his contract becomes more useful in a trade scenario for a better player.

his next deal will be MLE or higher.  he's shown he can be a valuable piece to a good team.

figure he'll go to a team willing to give him that and 3 years.

Off the top of my head, I could see Charlotte signing him. Zeller will be a free agent and they could free up a nice chunk of cap space. Theis is close with Gordon (so are their wives).

Utah is above the cap without even bringing Conley back.  They can't sign anyone for 12 million a year.

I suppose charlotte or Dallas makes sense, I don't think Toronto is viable, but for Dallas, especially, Theis would be a last resort type signing (same with toronto).

That said, I don't think anyone is giving Theis 12 million a year.  I really don't think he is going to get more than I indicated i.e. something like 3 years, 20 million or 1 year 9 million.  Theis is not good enough or young enough to invest a bunch of money in.

Everyone always gets more than I think they will.  Probably Theis will be no different.  I think Theis is somewhere in the range (probably the lower end) of these players:

Millsap       $10M
Ibaka          $9M
Saric           $8M
Poeltl          $8M
Zubac         $7M
Baynes        $7M

Theis is only 28 years old (almost 29).  I could see him getting 3-4 years in the $7M-$9M range.  If it gets much richer than that (and it may), I would pass.

You know, when people critique Ainge, they reference trades and draft picks but it is not usually mentioned that Theis was a pretty savvy pick up.  We got our money's worth and then some from Theis as an undrafted free agent signing.  Not too many undrafted players make it past the G-League.

True. Unless they trade Bogdonovic and Favors to make room

I agree that Conley won't be brought back but it will also mean they will need some help at the PG/backup pg position

That would require people to give Ainge credit for something. For some, Ainge can’t do anything right. Their moves of overseas FA players the past few years has been pretty great imo: Larkin, Theis, Wanamaker, Green. I’d consider all those guys hits as they served a solid purpose on the rostion/ backend of the roster. Pretty good if you ask me.

I think they will bring Conley back, I was saying they were over the cap without him, with him they are well into tax range.  They aren't signing Theis unless it is for very cheap dollars.

I was going to say Raptors as well.  I think Theis would fit on that team.
But I hope he stays with us on a decent deal.

I want to sign Theis longterm. Like 32/4.
Timelord as starting center and Theis as his back-up.

Considering that Derrick Favors got a 3 year 27 million deal as a 28-29 year old big man who's good but not great last offseason, I don't see why Theis will not get similar offers.
