I can't stand Kyrie so for me that is the only answer.  I have found this season, while not enjoyable, at least interesting.  watching Brown and Tatum continue to progress has been great.  PP has been a revelation for so late in the draft.  RW keeps showing flashes.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I felt that way early.

The last 20 games (7 wins, 13 losses) have sucked all enjoyment out of the season for me.

It's hard to compare a half season to a full season.  You see the patterns that annoy you and the frustration builds over time.  To me this team plays ugly ball hog ball and I'm sure my annoyance isn't near it's peak yet.  Plus there are some silver linings like Brown's development.

That Kyrie team had players that I genuinely disliked in Irving and Morris in particular.  I don't dislike anyone on this team.  I think they are good guys for the most part.  But the style of play is becoming hard to watch.  I find myself becoming especially frustrated with Tatum and Stevens in particular.  I remember the days when you took a 3 when you were open.  Tatum can be smothered and he takes a huge step to the side or backwards to launch it... I can't stand this unless it's done in an emergency situation.  Tatum does this routinely with tons of time on the shot clock and no attempt made to pass the ball.

The other thing that I've been watching is Timelord's minutes situation.  He has been the most dominant in some games and
Stevens yanks him to keep his minutes around 15 minutes.  This was extremely frustrating for a while but Stevens just said he's trying to keep him healthy so if that's the case he gets a pass on this... but while everyone is talking about Kemba's knees, the most interesting body part on the team is Timelord's hip.  I think he may be more damaged goods than Kemba and he's way more important to our future.

1997- 15-67 was not a lot of fun. Especially when we lost the lottery and a chance at a once in a generation superstar.

I think our expectations are just too high with the parts that we have right now. At least in 97 we did not get trolled though.

That was a terrible season

That was the year Pitino just quit on the team no?

ML Carr was the coach! He tanked us perfectly only to come away robbed by the lotto balls! Pitino came in after and soon after let Billups go because we know Billups would never amount to anything. Pitinio could not figure out which position to play Billups! Good ole days.

And then Billups eventually ended winning a championship and having a nice career

They should have been more patient

I forget - was it also Pitino who traded Joe Johnson for Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers?

That was Wallace.  Pitino was already long gone at that point.

Didn't the other team (was it the Hawks?) originally want Kedrick Brown but Wallace said no?

tough call.  I've enjoyed seeing some individual improvement but overall as a team, probably enjoying at the same level as Marc Blount's last season here.  still the biggest jerk (IMO) to wear the uniform since the 70's.

Definitely the 2018-2019 season. Even though that team was vastly superior in terms to talent, they were so unenjoyable to watch and actually hard to root for. I actually think that was my least favorite team since my Celtics fandom began in 2001. I enjoyed watching Kris Humphries and Gerald Wallace more.

This is exactly what I was thinking.  He played well enough to earn an extension and then morphed into Curtis Rowe - but with an attitude.
Speaking of which here are my 4 worst Celtics seasons -
Blount's last one
This one (for the time being at least)
Kyrie
Rowe/Sydney Wicks the year Tommy got fired as coach.

Since the argument is 'since' and not 'ever', I am not going to go back too far. 2018-19 was rough, but that team had a ceiling that this team just doesn't have...even though they came up very short of a Title.

I'll go with 13-14 instead. It was the official end of the Big 3 and that team had zero ceiling. We were playing guys like Gerald Wallace, Jerryd Bayless, and Kris Humphries major minutes. Keith Bogans wouldn't even play for us we were so bad. And then we only ended up with the 6th pick after all of that suffering. Don't get me wrong, I love Smart, but getting one of Embiid, Wiggins, or Parker was always the goal that season (luckily we got Smart over the latter 2).

I also hear people talking about trading Billups. While that proved to be a not-great move. Kenny Anderson played relatively well for us and as a decent veteran presence for some of those Pierce/Walker playoff teams. The Joe Johnson trade was much more damaging imo.

From my recollection, the Suns wanted Brown but Wallace pushed Johnson on them instead.

Since the 2013-14, the first year of coach Brad, where we passed from our historic big 3 to a core of no contest year without even tanking. The only thing positiv I talled me is that CBS was maybe a correct to good coach. But the rest was just about waiting the next year, knowing we wouldn't even get the top draft.

This year is dispaointing at will but we have still a lot of hope and things to watch middle term. And even short term, I am not sold we can't make a run in the PO. East is playable (depends on Nets) and just Walker becoming what he was last PO, Smart return, youngs progress a little and Ainge find 2 good rotation players (dumping Teague and Theis or Thompson) and we may be good enough to compete against our good and happy friends of Philly or the drama team of NJ... Who knows ?

The Irving year. That’s the only one this decade that competes IMO

I don't know. I have seen this complaint more than a couple times on this site over the last 14 years. That 2006-07 season was pretty unenjoyable. 2010 sucked as the team played .500 ball for over the last half of the season(final 54 games)and well below their potential until they flipped the script in the playoffs. 2013-14 was awful. 2018-19 was one of the more un-Celtic seasons ever, up there with the Marvin Barnes/Curtis Rowe teams. Now this.

It's all subjective. Some fans will be happy and positive about the team no matter what and will disagree with this take. Many fans are never happy and hate every year that doesn't end in a title, no matter how well the team plays. I think most of us are disappointed thus far, but if they turn things around, and that is definitely possible, the overall enjoyment of the team can be raised considerably for most of us.

Only time will tell.

Which season? The one where all of our hopes and dreams were smashed 5 minutes into the season and Kyrie was injured for the playoff,s or the one where we had a 2nd chance of being amazing, but we were quite the opposite?

I know you mean the 2nd one, but the 1st season basically took all of the hard work Danny did of making us a true contender and tossed it out the window. That has led to plan B (or C)...which is build through our youth. Still a good plan, but not as fun as a team with AD, Kyrie, Tatum, and Al.

i started watching the team in 2003. this is by far the worst season ive endured since then.

There seemed to be more hope for the future in other notbaly bad seasons..

06-07. horrible season with the pierce and tony allen injuries, but we were all convinced oden or durant were going to come save us. That didnt happen, but the team had enough assets to build an all time great team that would win it all the very next year!

13-14. Brutal transition year, but Stevens looked like a great hire who had an abysmal roster overachieve and stick around in games they had no business sticking around in. That part was fun. Plus we all had the 2014 draft to look forward to which, strangely enough looking back, was supposed to be the best draft class since 03. We also started to realize those Nets picks may end up being better than we thought..

18-19. One of the most insufferable underachieving teams in history. We all knew kyrie was gone two months prior to the season ending, but we still had what looked like a great young team who were only one year removed from the ECF and could get another max guy in here if kyrie left.

This season is just...yuck. and to make matters worse, the future looks bleak. The team is stuck with kembas horrible contract, Ainges draft asset treasure chest is gone, Stevens seems to have lost the team, Brown and Tatum seem more interested with personal clout rather than winning games, and none of the guys drafted over the last 3 years are really standing out. Oh, and Tommy's dead. Yeah, this year sucks.
