The Irving year. That’s the only one this decade that competes IMO

Which season? The one where all of our hopes and dreams were smashed 5 minutes into the season and Kyrie was injured for the playoff,s or the one where we had a 2nd chance of being amazing, but we were quite the opposite?

I know you mean the 2nd one, but the 1st season basically took all of the hard work Danny did of making us a true contender and tossed it out the window. That has led to plan B (or C)...which is build through our youth. Still a good plan, but not as fun as a team with AD, Kyrie, Tatum, and Al.
The first one did suck, but I think the hope that the young guys gave us was something to be proud of. It also only sucked for things outside of the teams control.

This year, and the final Kyrie year, suffered from mismanaged team building and coaching mistakes. That makes it hurt more.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

1997- 15-67 was not a lot of fun. Especially when we lost the lottery and a chance at a once in a generation superstar.

I think our expectations are just too high with the parts that we have right now. At least in 97 we did not get trolled though.

That was a terrible season

That was the year Pitino just quit on the team no?

ML Carr was the coach! He tanked us perfectly only to come away robbed by the lotto balls! Pitino came in after and soon after let Billups go because we know Billups would never amount to anything. Pitinio could not figure out which position to play Billups! Good ole days.

And then Billups eventually ended winning a championship and having a nice career

They should have been more patient

I forget - was it also Pitino who traded Joe Johnson for Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers?

That was Wallace.  Pitino was already long gone at that point.

Didn't the other team (was it the Hawks?) originally want Kedrick Brown but Wallace said no?

From my recollection, the Suns wanted Brown but Wallace pushed Johnson on them instead.
I thought the Suns were fine with either one and Wallace sent Johnson over Brown.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

I think part of it is certainly left up to interpretation based on this quote from Wallace and whatever the people in PHX at the time would tell you.  Regardless, in hindsight, it was clearly the wrong guy.

Quote
“It’s easy to see now that we made a mistake putting Joe Johnson into that trade,” said then-Celtics general manager Chris Wallace, now the Memphis GM. “But at the time it wasn’t such a simple call. Joe wasn’t playing and his confidence was shot. Kedrick was playing, and Obie (then-coach Jim O’Brien) liked him. It looked like Kedrick’s role was going to expand. But with the trade he went from starting to not playing. “The next year he was looking really good in camp, but he came down in the bench area in a game at Mohegan Sun and really hurt his ankle badly. When he came back, his 3-ball wasn’t falling (3-for-39), and Obie went away from him.

The first half of the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season was pretty awful, too.

This is trending toward somehow being worse than 2019.

That team was up and down and way underperformed its talent.  Kyrie was (and still is) a miserable arrogant smug weirdo.

But at least they had a lot of good players and they played well a lot of the time.

ok earlier in this thread I said that this year wasn't as bad as 18-19.  I think I am going to revise that.
That 1st half against the hawks was brutal.  The team is not only horrid, they are painful to watch since they aren't even giving effort.

Agreed. Saw someone say this team was worse to watch than that one a month ago and thought they were exaggerating. Boy was I wrong

Worst since 06 for me, to the point I’m starting to question how excited I am for our 2 young all stars

I can't remember a non-tanking season when I just wanted to forfeit all of the remaining games and say "Hopefully it's better next year."

Least enjoyable since? 2018-2019 season. That Irving-led Celtics that eventually had a second-round exit.

Other than that, there was that 2013-2014 season...that sad rebuild year. At least at the time we knew we were trash and those guys were actually hustling lol.

Even the 2013-14 season were more enjoyable because even though it was a losing team, most of them were competitive and that Jeff Green game winner against the LeCheat was amazing.

Oh yeah!!! It was also the final year of LeCheat in that team before he went back home to form a Big 3 in Cleveland lol.
