That's probably the best comment one can come up with right after a loss like this.

I'd be cursing everyone out until I cool down.
After, I'd be like a little kitty.  ;D

Overall, I didn’t think “crunch time” was the biggest issue.  The team got mostly good looks, if I’m remembering correctly.

Rather, it was 15 to 20 minutes leading up to crunch time that completely sucked.

Funny jaylen was the only one who drove it to the basket with that circus shot that got the and 1 when the collapse was happening.

The floater by tatum was just ballsy.

We shot under 40% for the game including 27% from 3.  I don't know the numbers for the 4th and overtime but I am sure it was under that.  We did not hit enough shots.  Some were forced but many were good looks that we need to make more of in a game like this.

As to being on the same page.  I would say our execution on offence was not great in the 4th/OT.  They were doubling Tatum out of every screen and we weren't great at getting it back around to the open man.  Again, I don't know the stats but I am guessing our assist rate in the 4th/OT was very low.

It is a game we should have won but I think things are fixable.

As I said on a different thread...."the reason the Cs lost in overtime today is because they shot 27% from 3s.  Walker and Brown shot 4 for 22, that's 18%.  This team needs another scorer.  Get Barnes on the team now!"

I get that this loss is on the backs of Kemba and Jaylen with their horrendous shooting, but your last point is very underrated. Tatum was facing traps/double teams nearly every time he touched the ball after his early 3rd quarter success. Instead of making correct/quicker reads, he would get himself in less than desirable situations and we were left forcing up a 3.

It was just a much different situation than the 1st quarter when everybody was cold, but Jaylen was finding open teammates for easy hoops. Tatum is a great playmaker when going downhill, but he needs to learn to move the ball much more quickly when he sees the double coming.

I think we are saying the same things.  At times, this team moves the ball well, gets it to the player with the better look, scoring is efficient.  Other times, particulary late in close games, things tighten up and our young players show they lack of maturity and experience, reverting back to more singular play.  This is normal star player development though.  They just need to work through all of this.

Also, my read is that Payton is not playing the same since Kemba returned.  It seems like he is hesitant to shoot unless forced by the clock.  It's almost like he is playing scared.  I do feel that Aaron is going to be a keeper.  He just needs the 20+ minutes a game.

Too much usage by our top 3 guys.  Besides the Nets, whose Big 3 are much more experienced and better than our Big 3, no other team in the entire NBA has 3 players with 30% usage. It shows when you see how little other guys on the court get involved in the offense, especially during crunch time. Other teams smell blood, and jam and double up our stars, especially Tatum, in those moments.  Tatum made a couple of big plays to keep us in it, but  long term if we don't spread the usage around more, we will never progress to a championship contender.

I don't think one has to do with the other. It may be coincidence but let's face it Payton hasn't been playing that good for a week or two period. Even when he gets more time on Kemba's back to backs. It's like the honeymoon is over.

I agree.  it's been noticeable for awhile with Tatum at the end of close games (and especially yesterday) that he can be pressured and his mediocre ball handling and passing allows him to get bottled up where he either loses the ball (picked clean off his dribble or a TO from a bad pass) or ends up running down the clock quite a bit trying to escape the pressure either off the dribble or by a pass which frequently results in a non-scoring trip down the floor for the C's.

I think part of this is on Brad for not figuring out how to help Tatum (and the team) be more successful down the stretch and that Kemba isn't the type of PG that has a great handle and can be a great distributor.  I don't see Smart as the answer to the PG situation ultimately but he does offer a good option for someone who has a decent handle that can bring the ball up the floor to initiate the offense in crunch time.

Tatum literally brought it down, cleared out a side, and ran pick and roll with the 5 for half a quarter.

This is not good offense!

They ran a designed play several times down the stretch, expecting the Tatum double team. TIme Lord was open on rolls to the hoop several plays in a row. Theis found him the first time but Tatum reacted late or took it upon himself the rest of overtime and failed to pass. Our stars are failing... Failing to pass and failing to hit shots... Esp in crunch time situation. The learning curve is slow for them right now.
