If we want to compete for a championship this year, we need a big 4. B Beal and K Towns would do it.

Towns
Tatum
Brown
Beal

The Celtics won't be getting Beal or Towns if they want to keep Tatum and/or Brown.

and your point is what exactly?  that adding all-stars at positions not played by the J's would improve the team?  um, well, duh.

while you're at it, you can make another thread announcing that water is wet

Semi langford and all our 2nd rnd picks should be plenty to make this happen. But keep in mind this will probably kill our chemistry...

Looking around the contenders for a championship as situated the celts are not in contention. The jays are still young and we need to add some complementary players. We could use a 2and a five. I don’t believe Tatum is a true 4, he is a big 3. brown is a 3, I don’t see him as a 2 even though he plays that position. I would rather see a true  2 coming off screens. Water is wet and changes need to be made.

We need an elite sixth man, though.  Lebron off the bench?

But seriously, what we need is to add a starter without giving up one of our top five players. For an elite upgrade, I would sacrifice Smart.

Made this point earlier elsewhere  -- interested in your take. The Cs need to use their best assets other than Brown and Tatum to land a third star, one capable of rounding out a championship core. Smart is clearly one of those assets.

You've been a big Collins proponent. So is Collins really a star? I like him as a player, but I'm not convince a core of Collins, Tatum and Brown is championship caliber in the coming 3-5 years.

I think he can be.  He’s not Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, or Tony Parker, but he’s really dang good.  Zach Randolph level player, I’d say.

I think he is good enough as a third star. I think that Jaylin is probably good enough as a second star.  I think the thing that holds us back right now is that Tatum just isn’t the number one MVP-caliber star that we need yet.  I think he will get there, but not yet. That’s one reason why I am so adamant to go all in to add a star that fits our timeline.  30 year olds do nothing for our window.  23 year olds do.

We would be lucky to somehow add one of these guys without giving up Brown/Tatum. Yet somehow we add both?

I'm in!

I agree with all of the above. And I agree Brown can handle 2nd Star duty. Collins feels borderline to me on 3rd star. Giving up Smart and pick(s), then paying the guy what he may command locks us in pretty hard to that core of three.

Interested to see whether he looks a little more dominant tonight by comparison to the other day. Can he be a force on the pick-n-roll?

I am not hung up on this 3 stars thing.  Did the Lakers have 3 stars?  They had 2 really top stars but you can't say they had 3.  How about TOR in 2019.  They had Kawhi Leonard and then a bunch of good but not great players.

I would definitely prefer to pair up Brown and Tatum with a skilled big 3rd star over a gimpy PG (Walker) 3rd star but the range of what that 3rd star can be is fairly broad, especially if you are really solid in your top 2.  I don't think it needs to be Karl-Anthony Towns for example, although that would be nice.

It could be Collins I guess, even if it is still not 100% clear on just how good he is.  Certainly there are others that could could fit the bill, Julius Randle?  Andre Drummond?  Nikola Vucevic?  Rudy Gobert?  Ben Simmons?  How about Pascal Siakam (hard to say he is not good enough to be the 3rd star on a title team)?

The Lakers had two top 5 players that year. Toronto had one MVP-calibre player, a couple of All-Star tier players, and then other good players in Gasol, FVV and Ibaka. I don't think either of those teams are good examples to compare us to.
At least, not until the Jays are both MVP level players ;)
