I think we would beat the Nets.  The Lakers depend on AD’s health.

I do get puzzled by this idea that we should try to do better than John Collins.  Those players aren’t out there, and if they were, there’s no way to ad them to the Jays.

Given the Nets inability to defend I'd like our chances too. Especially with that three headed monster on offence.

I think people are severely underrating John Collins. John Collins compares very nicely to Christian Wood to me (Collins is stronger, Wood is quicker). Both are super good offensive players, solid rebounders and questionable defenders. However, Collins is younger and is yet to play for a good defensive coach, like Stevens.

This has been obvious since the 2018 ECF run when Brown and Tatum played above expectations and the team roles between young, talented draft picks and the established stars like Irving and Hayward became very confused.

To win titles, I believe the Celtics need 3 main changes:

A playmaker deluxe PG to replace the line of ball-dominant, scoring guards that Ainge keeps going after. Seemed obvious to me that after 2018, the team should play to its strengths, being their wings. Irving and Kemba are a bad fit with the two J's.

Major upgrade at center with a strong defender/rebounder who can also score when needed. A physical power forward off the bench would also help our very weak interior play. Celts need a big improvement in post defense and rebounding along with getting more easy points inside. We have to work way too hard to score consistently and living by the jump shot alone ain't gonna put #18 in the rafters. I am so sick that the Lakers with that fraud Lebron have tied our titles record.

Finally, add a couple of knock-down, catch and shoot killers. Celts are not a great shooting team, very streaky collection of jump-shooters.

There is a lot to like about Brad Stevens, but in the end, I just don't see him having a firm enough hand to guide a team through the playoffs. I am not suggesting we need a screaming maniac or a task-master like Thibs who plays his guys into the ground. I just don't think Stevens is tough enough to get it done.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

After tonight, those fans two watch the Hawks twice per year are convinced that Collins is worth a top-55 protected pick.

To compete for a title Boston needs a top 5 player, an All NBA player, and an all star level player (even if said player doesn't actually make the all star game).  That is basically what every champion in the entire history of the league has had.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Bigs. Theis is not a starter on any championship team. Bam Adebayo puts this team over the top.
