Before Kemba returned, the team played best when Smart embraced the facilitating role, being the assist leader, deferring to others to take the shots (mainly the 2 Jays).
When Smarts took more than 10 shots per game, we lost the games. He is not an efficient volume shooters and it was demoralizing to see him jacking up 3s afer 3s or difficult shots around the basket.
Since Kemba returned, he became the main PG. But, for some reasons, he could not facilitate the team. He assist per game is much lower than Smart's. And much worse, he took lots of shots with low accuracy. Basically, he becomes like Smart ver.2, and the result was eerily similar. The Celtics lost games after games.
I argue (again), that if we want to make the 2 Jay's our team backbone, the they must be supported by a pass first PG. Not Kemba type PG or jacking-3s-version-of-Smart type of PG. We need a rebounding and dominant Center with efficient FG% to complement them.
We should trade Kemba for a center and let Smart be the PG, but with a restriction on the number of shots he takes per game. And Brad should be willing to enforce this.
Otherwise, it's gonna be a long season.
