Why is Nesmith glued to the bench?

I'm expecting to see some Nesmith against the raps but we'll see.

Nesmith will play when he shows he can play in practice etc. I don’t get this fascination with playing young players when everyone gets upset when they lose. Nesmith will get his time to shine at some point. They aren’t going to force feed him minutes. The same way they didn’t force feed Brown etc.

While true, do we know he’s not performing in practice?  Overall he seems to be in the right spots. 

I’m fine with stabilizing the team and making Nesmith wait, but I do think we should be integrating him by running some screens for him, etc.

I do think that players need to be able to play through mistakes. Look at Rob Williams.

I don’t think teams are practicing that much at all during this Covid season, are they?

I just think it’s tough on rookies if practices are really limited.  Also R Williams is a 3rd year player now, and has long offseasons in the past to work on his game whereas Nesmith hasn’t. It also might be Nesmith is fighting a nagging injury we don’t know about.  I seem to recall he might have gotten pretty banged up in one of his recent games.

That would make some sense. Brad does yank guys in and out of the rotation. Look at Green and Grant Williams last game to this game.

Because raw +/- and on/off are terrible measures of a player's situational value and Nesmith went from terrible to barely passable in the stretch of games where people were pulling up his raw +/- values as evidence that he deserves more minutes. Give Nesmith time - he's not that good right now but he'll get there eventually.

I was going by watching his hustle on the court. He was adding some really good energy and hustle plays.

I think you're confusing being busy for being good - yes he hustled a lot and gave us a lot of energy, but his defence overall was what you'd expect from a low usage bench wing, it wasn't like he was really slowing down opposing perimeter players or making big value plays as a help defender.

Stevens brought each along at the level that was/is right off that player. So if Stevens feels Nesmith has to sit right now, I'm going to give Brad the benefit of the doubt on this and say, yeah, it's probably the right move not to play Nesmith the last couple games. Can't really disagree it's a bad decision if the team won, IMHO.

and play Tatum who is just exhusted the most minutes on the team.... I like Brad but he can be wrong.

While I don't necessarily disagree, it pains me to see Brown obviously injured and getting more and more hurt when we have a rookie lotto pick who plays the same position getting no run. Exacerbated by nights when Tatum is struggling

I believe I read the Celtics should be able to fit in something like 3 or more practices durning all star break. Maybe that will help get him on the court.

In the mean time, as much as I would like to see him play, the team is winning and the beach players have been pretty good. I probably wouldn't mess with the rotation either.
