I doubt Danny is looking for a center. Looking for a big wing, Barnes would be perfect, Gordon less so.  I keep harping on Josh Jackson, but doubt Pistons have any interest in moving him.  He'd fit our system very well.

Timelord could well emerge as the third-best player after Brown and Tatum, and a star in his own right. We just watched Jaylen Brown explode once he refined his game and gained some experience. This is another guy with that level of potential. I don't let him go unless it is for a superstar.

I don’t know that Rob can be the 3rd best player on this team if we’re going to contend, but he can certainly be a D. Jordan level starter and borderline all-star. I doubt he ever makes an all-star team, but it won’t hurt if he does!

Jordan was also an athletic project from Texas A&M, that many teams passed on, including the Celtics. I really wanted Danny to draft him at the time. He took a few years to develop and he wasn’t hindered by injuries like Rob has been.

If the injury bug is behind him I think Rob can trend a similar trajectory to Jordan. Glad Danny grabbed him and didn’t make the same mistake twice.

Bob Williams was always a long term project. That project is going well, IMO. They're highly unlikely to give up on him after the investment they've made -- and they shouldn't. His talent is undeniable.

R. Williams is the center we need and Theis is the power forward we need. Tacko should be your third big. Stevens just doesn't know what he's doing, at all.

Embiid is playing like an MVP this year. There is no center in the league who can stop him one on one this year. The expectation should not be to find a center who can stop Jokic and Embiid. No such center exists. We just need to play the best players. Stevens is not playing the best players.
“Tacko should be your third big” hahaha

I don't see what's funny or outlandish about that statement. You don't need an all star for your third string center you just need someone who can protect the rim. Tacko is that guy.

Tacko Fall is not an NBA caliber player....yet....that is if he ever does become one. If he is your third string center and one or both of the other centers get hurt, the team is screwed.

And what we need is more of a PF player, not a center.

This is true. I’m actually not sure how the conversation was interpreted as Danny looking for a center.  The quote that began the thread referenced both wings and bigs, but nothing specifically about a center.
My point in starting the thread is that Thompson finally picked up his game - and started doing it a few days before O'Connor's anecdote surfaced.  I was just wondering whether TT's brutal early season performances lead Danny to at least call around the league to see what might be available. He's been a LOT better on this trip.

I agree there is more of a need for PF help.

evin O'Connor of The Ringer joined Early Edition on Tuesday to discuss.

"We'll see what opportunities come up over the next month ahead of the deadline. But it was weird, honestly, on Saturday night. Like out of nowhere I had two separate people text me that 'Hey, the Celtics are up to something' and then I check with other people that I trust a lot and everybody was saying it seems that they are up to something, they're on the prowl looking for a player out there. It's still unclear who though," O'Connor said.

"I mean, you look around the league, Danny Ainge himself said recently about looking for a bigger player who can shoot. Maybe a guy like Thaddeus Young could play some small-ball five for you, a P.J. Tucker from the Rockets, a versatile wing. There's good role players to be had out there and for Boston, they have enough assets and enough first-round draft picks where if they decide to if the price is right -- I do think Boston will be able to make a move if the price is right."

The C's (12-10) haven't exactly been playing their best basketball as of late, and seeding could be a real factor in the Eastern Conference come playoff time. Does this mean we should expect Ainge to make a deal sooner rather than later?

"I think so much of everything is about timing and right now, this is why it was so weird on Saturday night that it came out, same as the timing of the Derrick Rose-to-the-Knicks trade, there's not a lot of conversation right now that seems legitimate or like anything that could turn into something," O'Connor said.

"With Boston, if something does pop up that is worthy of doing now that can help them, I don't see why they would wait. But ultimately, I don't think some of those guys like a P.J. Tucker would become available until closer to the deadline. Because right now, Houston's still in it, they're still competing and same is true for so many teams across the league which is kind of a byproduct of the play-in tournament the fact there's just more playoff spots, so you have more teams that have more to play for longer.

That’s a follow up interview on the original non-story.  I don’t believe KOC has a single legitimate front office source.  “The Celtics are doing something, but nobody knows what”.  That’s what his sources are telling him?  Hell, that’s what my sources — Donoghus, Goukii and my pet cat — are telling me, too.

Thompson's had a couple of decent games and suddenly, we are set at the center position ?

Hardly. We don't currently have a starting center good enough for us to win a title.

We need to fix our bench first. Lack of playmaking and scoring really hurt this team badly. After Hayward and Horford left, we didn't exactly fill the void to replace those skillsets.

One of the pitfalls of not overpaying good players that get rich offers from other teams. You overpay players that are much worse lol.
