  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
If this is the kind of return you are going to get for Walker, it is exactly the reason you can't move him (now or ever). Even if he is considered overpaid, Walker is just too good to trade away for much lesser pieces. As a win-now team, we are supposed to be the team giving up lower level players in order to acquire a guy like Kemba, not the other way around.

If you think you can get a comparable player to him that you think might fit better, like Vucevic or Collins, then by all means make the argument; but this just makes the Cs worse while also giving up picks in the process.

Kemba might not have his peak value ATM, but he is an AS player and currently undervalued by a lot of C's fans.
Ball is a good target to pursue at a low price, but Kembas value alone is more than enough.
Reddick might be a late 1st though.
It’s only been 7 games so far this season but Kembas shooting splits are horrible. Barely in the 30%s
Exactly, it's just 7 games.
In prior 378 regular-season games, last 5 years, he has 43/38/85 splits.
I always go with bigger sample size.

So the Celtics give up the best player by far and draft capital for a PG that 2 teams have now decided are not part of their future.

Pritchard is coming back making Ball unnecessary. Pritchard is almost a 50/40/90 guy thus far. I’d rather give him the backup minutes for Smart and Kemba

on the Ball acquisition front, I'd probably be ok with the TPE and the 21 1st if Boston thought it could re-sign Ball (and even if they had no intention of re-signing, but felt he could really help the team this year).  Seems like the type of trade that could pan out and would definitely provide some Walker and Smart insurance for the year by providing a competent ball handler that is a good defender.  I do think Ball can get back to + defense on a team like Boston that is just a really sound defensive team and away from what is perhaps the worst defensive starting lineup in all of basketball in New Orleans.  So if they would do Ball for 2021 1st, I'd probably do that.  And if it doesn't work out immediately, Boston could still trade Ball this year and try for a different fitting piece.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Jahlil Okafor says hello to this trade proposal. Why do we want a player who cannot shoot or run an offense for an all star player?

This is the same kind of infatuation we used to see about the Sixers Okafor too.

Ball has failed now in 2 places already and even a team that is in a rebuilding phase does not believe he can be valuable to that.

I will take a hard pass on the NO Ball and his Dad too.

The only Ball I like is LaMelo

Lonzo plays with zero confidence

right now the guy I wouldn't mind trading for is Malik Monk

He is shooting the lights out

"for Ball and pieces"? Ball is just a piece. Where's the real value? Throwing in 2 first round picks? What?!

I have zero interest in Lonzo Ball.

I'm willing to stick with Kemba, but we still do need to add a piece.  I voted Vuc as my #1 trade target, but I'm also in on Barnes.  I think he'd fit nicely on the team.

People are trying to force deals, what we really need it health and we have for years.  Kemba keeps getting stronger, PP comes back and plays like he was, Romeo gets healthy and is the lock down defender like he was later last year, I think we'll be OK.

I think that is fair from a value standpoint but I am not sure it is useful to the Celtics from a fit standpoint.  Aren't we already a little crowded at PG with Walker, Smart, Pritchard, Teague, and Waters all able to play the position?  Maybe if we send back Teague and Waters, but I see no place for him in the rotation otherwise.

Walker is a far, far better player than Ball.

Pass on Ball (see what I did there?).....

What about this....

Kemba and Edwards to Clippers
Marcus Morris and Pat Beverly to Denver
Lou Williams and Grant Williams (and a pick) to Pelicans

Lonzo ball, Gary Harris and JaMychal Green to Boston

Ball/Pritchard/Teague
Smart/Harris/Romeo
Brown/Nesmith/Green
Tatum/Green/Semi
Theis/Thompson/Timelord

Preserves the Full MLE to use.

Ball was 11-6 and 7 with very good defense last year. also with 38% from the 3 point line on 6.5 attempts per game. His game is worse this year, imo, because he is playing with Bledsoe.

Team would vault to one of the best teams defensively in the league, also bench improves dramatically
'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

That is a really bad move for us. Lonzo Ball and Gary Harris are both having years that could be argued to be their career-worst, and at this stage I wouldn't even start Ball over Pritchard. Ball is a really really bad fit here given he is awful off the ball, and Gary Harris is a 3&D guard who shoots the 3 at a woeful 33%.

Would rather keep Kemba, Grant and Carsen. JaMychal Green would be a solid addition though
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.
