Teague = Kemba Trade?

Clearly we all witnessed Kemba suffer because of his height in the playoffs. This is much more concerning long term than his rough patch of shooting which was also timed for the playoffs. It is a systemic problem that can’t be fixed vs. shooting going hot/cold.

I’m curious the path forward with Kemba... my gut leads me to believe that if we could trade him, we would.

I could see Smart/Teague/Pritchard sharing ball handling responsibilities adequately.

Jeff Teague is going to be competing with Pritchard and Waters for backup minutes, not challenging for Kemba's spot.


There was a time when Jeff Teague versus Kemba Walker was closer to a conversation (e.g. 2015 or so).


Teague is not a guy you want as your starting point guard in 2021.

Not at all. Teague is Wanamaker's replacement.

I would say only if he ends up as part of a much larger Charlotte deal...

Or is that deal already 100 percent done? (I guess a second deal would be possible that brings Rozier, a Center, and some draft picks...
while giving up Edwards and Ojeleye too...

What if we could find a veteran on a similar sized contract which allows us to open up a max slot sooner?

I know injury concerns, but for example, Blake Griffin has 1 year remaining (vs. 2).

I don't think Kemba will be traded, but if he is, it would only be to a situation he likes...to me that means he'll either play in Boston or Charlotte.  And maybe an outside chance in NY.

We only had two real ball handlers on the roster: Kemba and Smart. Teague would be a veteran and the third ball handler. Not really sure you can consider Waters (who doesn’t even have a contract at the moment) or Edwards (who just isn’t very good) as legitimate options. The last too might not even make the team.

I think Teague is going to demonstrate outstanding value / money when Kemba needs to be load managed, and / or if he's injured. I like the signing very much for that reason.

I also like the fact that Teague has always had a knack for getting to the cup when he wants to.... a skill this squad has lacked recently.

We would waste at least a year of Tatum and Brown's window for what, a small chance of attracting someone with a free max slot? And we'd ruin team chemistry again too. Kemba is a great teammate and respected leader. He's an all-star in his prime who's also happy to defer to Tatum and Brown.

Don't forget, it was Tatum who recruited him too. I don't see us trading Kemba unless an absolute no-brainer deal falls in our laps.
