Anybody know how many trade exceptions have been used in the past? Or who has been acquired through a TPE?

Thank you.  A chance to use it.  Better than nothing.

Any advantage of paying Thompson with TPE and using MLE to sign another player like GR?

I'm out of the CBA loop, but I don't think you can use that to sign free-agents.

It would have to be a S&T

Only if there's someone still out there that's worth the MLE. I don't see anyone, so probably not

That could be useful during buyout season, but if we still have the BAE then that would likely be enough anyway

Marc Stein @TheSteinLine

The Celtics just announced that they have managed to sign-and-trade Gordon Hayward to Charlotte ... which will create one of the largest (if not THE largest) trade exceptions in league history

Interesting, largest?
Are these second round picks the ones we received from Memphis for drafting Bane?

It doesn’t fit into the exception

We used one from the Pierce/KG trade to bring in Marcus Thornton and a first in 2014, then flipped him and the first for IT at the trade deadline

GSW acquired Kelly Oubre using their TPE

OKC has been flipping around TPEs, they'll be acquiring Horford with the Steven Adams one

It's possible (or even likely) that it goes unused, but there's definitely a precedent for using it

Good move

Shams Charania: Nicolas Batum plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers after he clears waivers, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium . – via Twitter ShamsCharania

No takers for Batum.  Especially without attaching big assets.  Probably better for the Hornets this way

Nope, our 2023 and 2024 2nds. Those will be basically worthless, so that isn't bad at all

Ugh. Does this mean we won't even get a TPE?
Charlotte can sign him outright now but teams could still do a TPE. Cs would likely give CHA like a second rounder or something.
Unfortunately we will have to send an asset or two to Charlotte to get the tpe.. then we have to send more assets to assume players into the TPE unless they are overpaid... not the greatest outcome. I would still prefer the turner plus a first round pick deal.
So Jordan is out of his mind to stretch batum but it’s his money so he can do what he wants.
Is anyone here hoping we get batum for the BAE?
Refuse to believe that Indy offered a 1st rounder. There was zero mention of a pick prior to Hayward announcing he was going to Charlotte for a boat load more money.

Indy needed to explain to their fanbase why they lost out on the local boy and suddenly Indy is claiming they offered a first.

I'm not buying that. It's just damage control.
Well indi and Celtics fans have their sides of the story... now that the TPE is finalized we will be going back to the pacers negotiations each game Thompson disappoints and each time turner has a good game... I guess it will make those discussions fun.
Now better Danny doesn’t let the tpe expire else it will look bad

So does this expire one year from today?  Can a free agent be signed and traded for a te?

It might not be exactly 1 year from today because the league calendars are in flux due to COVID.

But the Celtics will have a chance to absorb a contract at the beginning of the next league year.

I would think it will expire 2 weeks after free agency starts next season or something like that because all TPEs and deadlines got readjusted with the lockdown

Will probably expire or used to get a bad contract and a 1st rounder. Don't have faith it will be used on a good player.
