Officially on the clock.  We've got 5 years to make the most of this era.  No guarantees after that.

There was a story in The Athletic the other day that Ainge has developed a reputation around the league for always asking for too much back in trade discussions - and it's one of the reasons he hasn't been able to move any of these draft picks they've had  and also make any kind a deal to improve last year's team.

If this is true, he's on the clock now as much as anyone else to take full advantage of this window.

Could very well be.

The Lakers are a little weaker - no Dwight and no Rondo.

Both of them were key performers for them in the playoffs - especially Rondo.

BOS makes it out of the East next year we have a puncher's chance.

That's all you need.

It’s hard to remember now, but at the start of last season there was no sense that the Celtics were going to be contenders. We were still undeniably in talent accumulation/youth movement mode, and we had just lost both Kyrie and Al. Tatum was coming off a fairly disappointing season where he had seemed to stagnate in year 2.

There is every reason to believe that the organization is transitioning to a new mode now. Brown is under contract for the next four years at least, Tatum the next five, after which they are unrestricted free agents. You know you’ve got a possible future MVP in Tatum and a budding star in Brown, even if Kemba’s knee is a wildcard.

Ainge is always looking for the homerun move. If he can produce a big trade exception from Hayward he will stash that in his back pocket for the next 12 months. Otherwise he now has a couple of chunky salaries in Smart and Thompson in case another star gets disgruntled.

However, I think the way this team needs to compete for a title these next couple years is simply by staying healthy and improving. Tatum and Brown are still improving. Grant, Romeo, and Nesmith are all 21. Time Lord is 23. Pritchard is 22. These guys are all on the way up and growing together.

Danny is a victim of that 2008 trade for an instant championship, it then got compounded with the Nets deal, and then the Fultz deal and opposing GMs just stopped taking his calls. They hung up before he could get out the a-n-n-y in Danny,

This was the most important transaction of this offseason. Huge win for the Cs (and Tatum)! Smart/JB/JT all signed long term.

Nice! This was probably the most important deal that had to get done. Really happy to hear Tatum’s here to stay! Celtics legend in the making!
