Straight up awful take. He was much better than Fernando, Crabbe, Reddish, Carter, Hunter and Dedmon, so you're just straight lying. He was also averaging a cruisy 13/6/3 shooting it 45/38/87 in Minny as the back-up before being traded

He was solid in MN, yet atrocious in ATL (that's why they focused on finding a back up PG, but didn't even consider Teague)

- Cassel wasn't helpful on the court in 2008, but was great at practice and as a locker room presence

Is it just me, or do some people dramatically overstate Waters' ability?

The guy is a young end of bench guy.  He's pretty much what Phil Pressey was for us a few years back. He's the guy who can be fun to watch and the crowd likes him and he does some good things, but ultimately he's the backup for your backup's backup. Wanamaker was infinitely better then Waters last year, and Wanamaker is hardly a stud.

Gleague ROY, All Gleague 2ND team, and flashed when called up so even though I hate the small pgs I respect that he has played well. He should indeed be third depth chart worthy given how most of the guys who have won that kind of praise year one have made it on NBA rosters. But given his size feel his NBA impact will be too small.

Why didn't he fit into Atlanta second go around?

When I watch Teague nothing really stands out with him. I want to say he's crafty but I think that's being slightly generous.

Atlanta was a tanking team that was centred entirely around their star point guard. Hard to make it as a veteran backup in that scenario.

He’s a good, above average passer. Showed that in Indiana and Minnesota. He’s also a 37% shooter from 3, an elite free throw shooter and can penetrate inside pretty easily. He’ll be a great 20MPG player here.

I too see the PG depth chart that way but as I just wrote on the Hayward S&T, Langford is out a while so you might want Pritchard to play some 2 and bring up Waters. Once Langford is healthy send Waters back down. So as a two way player Waters has a role.

I'd like that but with Langford and Edwards on the roster it is more likely they use Nesmith at SF and don't add one. So bench unit is
Teague/Langford or Pritchard/ Nesmith/GW/Thompson

I think you have to play Nesmith. His shooting opens up the court for the slashers. Deep range, good size. Could be the Cs version of Duncan Robinson or even better.

Giving Tre Waters a minimum would also be a good signal that signing to the Celtics on a two-way contract can get you in the NBA if you perform well.
