I’m concerned, chemistry-wise, but I love this move, talent-wise! I think he’s a perfect fit. We don’t need a “lockdown defender” or a “rim protector” per se. What we need from an ideal big is:

- sets solid picks
- gets tough rebounds
- makes plays without getting plays called for him
- mobile
- spaces the floor

TT ticks 4/5 of those boxes. I think this was a great signing by the C’s.
how does thompson space the floor? he game is almost completely under the basket isnt it?

CBS likes his centers to play out near the top of the three point line, set picks, and pass. this will reduce thompson's key ability of rebounding it seems.

we shall see. maybe CBS can redesign the offense to fit him in, or, he can adapt.

so, what are the bets on whether theis or thompson starts most games?  ;D
He started to develop a 3 point shot... so who knows?
over 9 games of the last season he was 6/14 from 3.

prior to that he was 3-18 in 610 games.

so, i guess "starting to develop" is the right phrase.  ;D
I never said how quickly...

Amazing how Larry Bird got by without Robert Parish “spacing the floor”

Having these centers shoot 3s drives me nuts. I hope they just let him do what he does well.  He always killed us in the playoffs. And not by shooting 3s. Ugh

hee hee....good one gouki. (what is a gouki anyway???)

however, after watching some videos of thompson, i think he can be a much better version of kanter. imagine kanter being able to play credible defense.

so, i will concede once more that ainge seems to know a bit more than i do about nba basketball.... a bit.

coupled with teague, i think the celtics off season may be over and they are ready to start the season. whether thompson or teague is with this team at playoff time depends on how they perform and what trades ainge can create.

it should be a good season. i think this is a pretty good starting roster and now they have a credible veteran bench.

you might want to change your calendar from the 1990s.

Front court issues - resolved.

Robert - TT - Theis + whomever Not a bad bunch.

If Robert moves up a notch, we have some playoff level bigs.

Lol seriously.

While I do agree that centers shooting threes looks weird, the fact of the matter is that it's a huge part of the game now, and when your big can space the floor, it opens up the entire offense.

Comparing the style of play from previous decades to now is silly. It's completely different.

Thompson and Teague—THAT'S the type of thing I've been hoping for!

Two vets with a lot of experience, including playoff experience, who still have a good amount in the tank. Thompson is the legit starting center Boston has needed (no offense to Theis, whom I think is more suited to coming off the bench), and Teague is a solid backup PG, a big upgrade from Wanamaker. It’ll also be nice to have them around to help out the youngsters.

I was bummed about getting nothing for Hayward, but this makes up for it. Good work, Danny!

I'm not quite sure what to feel about this signing - TT's offensive rebounding can be really valuable to us as it gives our good offence extra possessions, but I'm unsure about his defence.

Parish was a fantastic midrange shooter in an era that was obsessed with midrange jumpshots to space the floor.

Have to think that Bam Adebayo dominating Theis made Danny realize they needed an upgrade at the 5 - as good as Theis was last season.  Thompson has to be excited that he'll be playing meaningful basketball again. And he'll bring some needed toughness and an experienced presence. This move checks several boxes.

As we all know, Brad loves the small ball. Tatum and Tsmart should be added to the list.

TT was 12th in TRB% and 4th in DRB% last year.

His 16.4 PER over the last 3 years is measurably better than Baynes because of rebounding, but Baynes is the better defender. He's also 4 years older though and he's played shortened seasons because of injuries the last couple of years.

The offensive rebounding could be huge for this team.
