As I came across it again tonight, that De'Aaron Fox max contract seems like an overpay IMO. He's pretty good, but I don't think he's a top 10 point guard in the league right now, which means he's basically a slightly above average starter at his position. 32 mil per year for that? Yikes. Hope he continues to improve!
I think he's pretty darn good. Doesn't get much respect because of Sacramento, but he averaged 21/7/4, gets to the line a heap, shot nearly 50%. He's improved significantly every year - could happen again
I agree that he's pretty good. But I still maintain he's slightly above average starter at his position. Even those numbers... he still isn't even really close to the level of Harden, Curry, Lillard, Kyrie, CP3, Doncic, Lowry, Kemba, Ben Simmons, Westbrook (as polarizing as he is, I think Kings certainly would have more wins with him in Fox's place). Jamal Murray (who in fairness is a max guy himself) I'd take over Fox pretty clearly. Then there's young point guards like Ja Morant and Trae Young who already might be better than Fox too, however also are likely en route to max contracts eventually.
Maybe having a max point guard is the key to the NBA today. But I wonder if you're setting yourself up in a bad situation if one of your one max contract player is going to be outmatched by his counterpart in most playoff rounds.
