Was Gasol any good last year?

He looked awful in the series against us and was preparing to go back to Europe for good.

The Lakers would have been much better off going with Baynes.

Or maybe keep Dwight Howard? Can’t see the appeal with Marc G on that Lakers team.

I don't know if he was hurt, but Gasol was epically bad in our series. I'm pretty sure they picked him up only because they had success with his brother. How they chose Gasol over Howard and McGee is absolutely puzzling. The Harrell signing was fantastic for them, but you had to think they could have done better at back-up C.

He wasn't bad in the regular season, but clearly didn't look good in the playoffs.  That said, he is a pretty solid passer and an excellent 3 point shooter, which probably has more value for the Lakers than what McGee and Howard provide.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Gasol and Harrell both looked bad in the bubble. Doc rivers refusal to go away from using Harrell I think is what sunk the clippers and maybe got doc fired. I’ve never seen Harrell be good in the playoffs. He should get a lot of easy passes from Bron this year. Harrell cost himself a bunch of cash with his playoff performance.

So less than the full MLE? Honestly, given the choice I'd rather have Baynes at 2/$14 million than Thompson at 2/$19 million. I guess we'll see how Thompson fits, though; there's a reason Danny wanted him last year

Baynes’ second year is a team option, too.  Good signing for Tampa.

Baynes is a good get for the Raptors. Gives them more energy and still brings experience. Losing Ibaka and Gasol is tough though. Boucher has to step up for them.

I guess this shows how little I know.  I def wanted Baynes before Tristan T.  I thought with his time here in Boston before & his improving off game that he would garner more attention in FA than TT would.  Baynes has better size and gives us a different look from Theis.  Theis and TT seem more similar.  I am sure there is more to the evaluation of Baynes that what I mentioned, otherwise the C's would have signed him instead.  Just kind of makes me wonder.

Baynes is solid, but he's quite injury-prone, especially when asked to play big minutes, and is 34 in 2 weeks. He's a 15-20MPG guy, hope the Raps don't run him into the ground expecting him to be more

This is exactly why I had no interest in a reunion. I think there's a bit of sentimentality that made some other posters interested, but it never made sense to me. He was good while he was her, but it's clearly time to move on. I like Tristan's durability and mobility much better for our team right now.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Totally agree with you guys.  I really like the guy and it's nice that he can hit 3's nowadays but the last couple years he has seemed a step slow and seemingly is always gimpy with some minor injury.

Because kemba is a better version of IT at this point. I don’t think I can survive watching a team with any more midgets.

With Pp/waters/walker and to an extent Teague/edwards Our point guard rotation is currently already smaller than most YMCA pickup games.

Nobody is interested.  If he wants to keep playing. Should go overseas

is this the end of the road for IT? Do we expect a nba retirement announcement this year ? I’m sure the signals he’s getting from teams must show the reality of his situation by now.
Maybe if he gives it another year or waits until trade deadline waiver wire for desperate playoff teams that need another man. But I think he will call it a career after that
