Awesome. Frees up a roster spot for a new center. Someone with real size. Robin Lopez please.

Really? My wife calls him the homeless looking version of Brook

All kidding aside.  He would not get many min under Brad

Give me 2 from Turner, Wood, Ibaka to go with Theis, Williams and I’m happy.

Yes. Legit size with length. 7 feet with 7-4 wingspan. A real shot blocking deterrent around the basket. Some skill on offense. Can post up now and then if you give him the ball. Team orientated guy.

Offers a skill-set uniquely different to the smaller bigs of Theis, Rob Williams and Grant Williams. Someone with legit size. A legit presence in the paint.

And unlike Aaron Baynes, Rob Lopez is not injured all the time.

(...) Celtics get a future Memphis draft consideration.
The Grizzlies gave us 2 future picks on draft night. If I get this straight, we just sacrificed one of them in order to dump Kanter.

#30 + Kanter for a pick somewhere in the late 30s - late 40s range

This is a terrible trade for the Celtics.

Kanter makes more money than he's worth and this frees up both room under the luxury tax and a roster spot.

People have to remember that not a lot of teams have cap space.  If the C's get under the tax line and have the Full MLE and BiAnnual they will have much better bigs available to them as a FA then Kanter.  Kanter is not a good fit on this team.  The C's also have two TPE's to use as well.  They are in good position to find a better player and it freed up another roster spot.
Hayward ain't on the books anymore. If he leaves, we got access to the non-taxpayer MLE and the BAE regardless of the Kanter trade.

Ibaka and Wood are unobtainable. They will demand $$$. Especially Ibaka

Danny needs to hurry up making these moves, doesn’t the season start in a few weeks!
They're planning something very specific.  I'm curious whether it will involve Hayward staying?

Sounds like all of a sudden they have flexibility.

Keeping Hayward and using someone with the non-taxpayer MLE would be awesome

I’m curious, why didn’t we make the trade directly with Portland, and keep the #30?

Agreed -- if nothing else (and you can't take another guaranteed contract this year), just take Yam M @ 30, then add another player like Reed @ 47 who could've been a two-way guy this year.

Too bad Semi wasn’t attached to free up another spot and increase the TE

We are at around $104M including Theis (team option) and Semi whose contract is non-guaranteed till tomorrow. The cap stands at $109,140,000. Problem is, if we sign a player via cap space, we lose access to the MLE and the BAE. It ain't worth it.

I don’t think it would have created a larger TPE, but instead a second one.

Danny doesn't define the timeline.  Kanter had to pick up his option yesterday before he could be included in the trade.

True, I’m just impatient.  ;)
