Not saying that Kanter is all that; but Cs are in need of a strong big.  Kanter was the closest thing to that.

(...) Celtics get a future Memphis draft consideration.
The Grizzlies gave us 2 future picks on draft night. If I get this straight, we just sacrificed one of them in order to dump Kanter.

#30 + Kanter for a pick somewhere in the late 30s - late 40s range

This is a terrible trade for the Celtics.

Kanter makes more money than he's worth and this frees up both room under the luxury tax and a roster spot.

Is VP still going out?
I ask because team now only has Theis and TL as Centers and both are 6'8 -240lbs

Timelord cant be 6'8.  He is taller than Bam by a smidge.

Even if Time Lord was 6'8" the way he jumps out of the gym, does it matter? I mean, Horford looked smaller than Hayward in some pics, he did just fine with out being able to jump.

People have to remember that not a lot of teams have cap space.  If the C's get under the tax line and have the Full MLE and BiAnnual they will have much better bigs available to them as a FA then Kanter.  Kanter is not a good fit on this team.  The C's also have two TPE's to use as well.  They are in good position to find a better player and it freed up another roster spot.

Psyched that Kanter gets to go back to an organization he had success with. Loved having him around last year and wish him the best!

I'm sure this means we have plans to acquire a big either in FA or in a trade with Indy (Turner). By dumping Poirier and Kanter, it looks like Danny might be trying to get below the tax, which would be wonderful.

I still have no idea what the deal is here. Did we gain an additional pick, are we giving back one of the 2nds?

Kanter is a serviceable backup Center on a relatively reasonable expiring contract. He ain't a negative asset. We gave up a late first + a rotation player for a mid second round pick + a $5,105,350 TPE. Are you telling me you'd do that trade for the C's?

Smells to me like Ainge has already got a deal in place for a big. He's dumped both Kanter and Poirier for salary / lux tax space in the past day (and just before FA begins at 6pm).

I remember the days of a Baynes-Horford starting lineup. Even if it was only due to injury

You have to be far enough below the tax line so that you can use the Full MLE and remain below the apron.  Same goes for the biannual exception.  So we'd need to be down to around 125k in order to use both.  Using either hard caps us.
