If the Celtic's are running back the main team from last year (which is not a bad idea), I think one of the keys is going to be managing Kemba's minutes.   With such a short offseason, there is not the time they probably wanted to allow his injury really heal

So I think one of the best ideas is adding a PG that can play heavy Regular Season minutes to reduce the minutes on Kemba.   Even play starter like minutes to allow Kemba to not play back to back.   Put Kemba on a similar plan that Kawhi was on.

So the question is who is that PG that the Celtics could get?

I like the idea of George Hill who was just traded to be trade filler.

At best he should be the third PG who plays backup minutes on those days when Kemba sits out.

The team needs an experienced PG who can step in and start when needed.

Absolutely nobody they currently have. And running it back with the same team is not going to be good enough.

DJ Augustin is a guy I've liked for a while - if he's interested in joining us for the veteran minimum or the MLE I'd snap him up.

Isn't the whole point of this thread talking about who they could get that's not already on the team?

Poster above said Tremont waters. My post was in response to that. Waters nor anyone on the current roster is good enough

There is not really any free agent PGs that can make any sort of an impact.

IMO it has to be either a draft, or you rely on Smart to fill in more to reduce Kemba minutes, meaning you need an SG or a SF to fill in Smarts time there.

'21 Historical Draft
PG: Kyle Lowry / Mookie Blaylock / Mark Jackson
SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

Do they need to make an impact or do they need to fit the role?

I don't think the Celtics need the "impact" player.   They have those.   They need to role player that can step in a fill the role.

I see two approaches, pick up a veteran PG (there will be some available) or plan that Marcus Smart gets the added PG minutes and find a vet SG to pick up some minutes.  The later could be easier to find or Romeo Langford may emerge and play that role.  Overall, I am not too worried about that specific issue.  I think the bigger need is big depth or perhaps getting at least one true starting level (top say 15-20 at his position) big.

Are there any really decent role players?
