Going to lose him for nothing. And then have no real path to upgrade the bench

Full MLE + BAE

That's a real path.

How much is that going to amount to?

Around $9.3 million + $3.6 million

only part of this I do not understand is why dumping a 34.2 million contract does not give you cap relief that is equal to the salary dump.

Because we are still over the cap. Brown's salary increases by $17 million, Tatum's by ~$2 mil, Kemba's by ~$1.5 mil, Smart's by $1 mil, then add our picks, etc., and with no cap increase that means that we're over (or under by less than the full MLE, which means that we're better off staying above the cap, since you would have to waive the MLE to get under)

Thanks TP!

Signing with the Knicks or hawks over staying in Boston? Can’t see it. Has to be something else

We may lose him for nothing if he finds a team with cap space that wants to use it on him.  I feel the more likely outcome is a sign and trade though.  It gives Hayward more options.  Teams without cap space (the vast majority of the teams) can be in the conversation.

He held out to the deadline because he didn't want to hit free agency this season but apparently was ready to move on from Boston.  A straight trade would have allowed him to get his $34M next season and then hit the market in what hopefully would be a more favorable off season.

I don't expect he signs an extension with the Celtics.  First, they probably don't want to extend him and second, if he wanted to play for the Celtics, he could have simply opted in.

Hayward is trash if he doesnt agree to a sign and trade.

Treating a team that paid him almost 100 million dollars to watch basketball like this is pure punk move.

I'm too lazy right now to look it up, but I don't recall Gordon agreeing to a sign and trade when he left Utah for Boston.

If I recall correctly, he was willing to but Utah wanted Crowder and Ainge wouldn't play ball.

If either of those two give him a 4 year deal at the max that they can offer thats incentive enough, he won out. Same situation as Horford, you go for the money if someone throws it at you.

Will miss him if he goes.

"IF" he's gone then that's Kyrie, Al and NOW GH......

It's not the end of the world but this team IS at a crossroads right now.

I guess it's All In for The Jays, Kemba and Smart. Not a bad group AT ALL right there but our window for ERROR just shrunk without GH.

That contract would be toxic in a year

I'm kind of fine with whatever happens from here. If Hayward signs a deal with the Hawks or Knicks then his priorities aren't where I want a Celtics' priorities to be so I won't miss him.

If it's a sign & trade, cool, I hope it brings back some nice players.

Can he still come back on a new, longer deal or is that totally out the window now? If it's still on the table, cool, he's a good player.

Oh yeah. So was Horford's though and Phili got out of it already.
