If Hayward does opt out, it gives the Celtics the full MLE (9.2 million) instead of the current mini MLE (5.7 miilion) that they currently possess. That gives them much more flexibilty to find a effective acquisition.

So we ll have 4mil more to improve the team and cover GH's production... Good luck with that

Not wonderful, but we would also have the BAE, which is awfully close to the taxpayer MLE. It would also get us under the tax line. There are some positives and it's possible we find somebody to be the 4th-5th option - Hayward's current role - for the MLE (T Thompson, Gallinari).

But, I agree, we are a better team with a healthy Hayward than without; and we already know he fits well with Tatum and Brown. Guess we'll just have to see how it all plays out.

I'd hope he does the franchise a solid and work with them on an opt-out, sign and trade with some one.

It's been very sad to watch Hayward with the Celtics compared to what could have been.

Pardon the bleak pun, but he never really found his footing with Boston after his injury.

Taxpayer MLE is ~6 million, BAE is ~4 million. It would be useful, but it won't get you anywhere near the player that the taxpayer's MLE ould. I wouldn't consider it to be that close
I'm bitter.

I think he is opting out because he (and his family) want out of Boston.
Maybe he doesn't have much hope in himself to earn a great contract after next season and would rather cash out of 34 mil next year to get 4 years 25mil elsewhere.

Do you have any particular reason why his family wants out of Boston?  His family after all chose to come here a few years back.

Maybe because he has been a train wreck here, and can't handle the pressure?
Truuuuuuuuuth!

Okay, so I shouldn't have used the word, 'awfully', but $4M is a lot better than the vet minimum. If a player is interested in joining our team, having the BAE gives us a huge advantage over tax payer teams who have already used their Taxpayer MLE. And it is at least comparable to the taxpayer MLE if our situation seems more intriguing to said player.

Not a good news on my opinion. I was happy having one more year to see if he can stay healthy, to see the difference he can make in this team on PO completing our 2 young leaders and be a seondarly playmaking option. Overpaying him one more year before deciding to go with a cheapest contract, trading him at the deadline or letting him while we are resigning Tatum.

Now or he leaves for nothing or we have to give him more money in years 2-3-4 than we were expected to do, during a time where we will have already 3 huge contracts to pay...

What?  How does getting injured badly have to do with not handling the pressure?

Might be a smart move on his part because, yes, he will lose more money next year but by signing a 4 year contract, if he does get hurt next year (hopefully not) than he would have money coming to him next 4 years..also I’m sure he has enough money that money isn’t a real issue
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Multiple sources have not said Hayward will opt out. That’s a lie.

Several weeks ago Jimmy Stewart from 98.5 stated he heard,  one of the condition (wife) of Hayward playing but missing out on the birth of his child, was that last season would be his last as a Celtic.

Per current rumors, sounds like it is all unravelling

Also, Hayward signed as a FA to be one of the head honchos of the team.  And with injuries, development of Brown/Tatum, signing of Kemba,  Hayward has taken the backseat.   Plus his wife is not pleased with some Celtics fan/media folks (Felger, Mazz, Murray clownshow).

I could see Hayward signing with Pacers or Mavs.

This may help in terms of a potential sign and trade (over just a trade) as there will be less annual money expected based on a new contract.  If a sign and trade works out, that is great.  If we lose him for nothing, not the end of the world but certainly not helpful.

Um, how does Jimmy Stewart know what Robyn Hayward’s conditions / ultimatums are?

Here’s the actual speculation from the podcast, btw:

Quote
I’ve heard that Gordon Hayward does want out, but I don’t know if he’s going to get the money. he’s not opting out of that huge number unless he knows he’s getting the deal.
