Could Jordan Bell return to that handy bench piece he was in GSW?
I don't see why not - he's the switchable big that Houston likes to play alongside Harden and Westbrook.
Yeah, that's how I see it. Could see him feasting on Harden lobs

ESPN Sources: 4-team trade agreement: Houston: Robert Covington; Atlanta: Clint Capela and Nene; Minnesota: Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, Evan Turner, ATL 1st round pick via Nets; Denver: Gerald Green, Houston FRP.

Deal is agreed upon, and players are being informed now
Something doesn’t add up. Probably another player from wolves is going to Houston

The deal involves 12 players — the most since 2000.

Houston:
OUT: Capela, Gerald Green, NeNe, 2020 1st rounder.
IN: Covington, Jordan Bell, Golden State 2024 2nd round

Minnesota:
OUT: Covington, Shabazz Napier, Jordan Bell, Noah Vonleh, Keita Bates-Diop
IN: Brooklyn 2020 1st round, Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, Evan Turner, Jarred Vanderbilt

Atlanta:
OUT: Evan Turner, Brooklyn 2020 1st round, 2024 Golden State 2nd round
IN: Capela, Nene

Denver:
OUT: Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, Jarred Vanderbilt
IN: Shabazz Napier, Keita Bates-Diop, Gerald Green, Noah Vonleh, Houston 2020 1st round

The teams haven’t had a trade call yet, so it’s not impossible an additional team still gets roped in.  It’s unlikely that team will be Golden State for Russell.

I've never been the biggest fan of Capela, but that's a robbery by Atlanta. Basically a nonlotto-pick for an above average starting center on a good contract until 2023.

I don't understand Denver's motivation. They are giving up better players than they are getting back. They got loads of depth already. Too much depth. Why are they taking back guys who won't crack their rotation?

Are the players they're giving up really that good? It's a pretty nothing move for them, but Beasley and Juancho are both having quite poor years, and Vanderbilt isn't in the rotation. I think Shabazz and Vonleh are both solid bench pieces, and they have no first round pick this year. Might be wanting to try and replace Torrey Craig with a first round wing

They are both solid rotation guys. Hernangomez is shooting badly this year but he was very good last year. He is a guy I'd like to see in Boston. Size, shooting combo forward. Useful. Malik Beasley is a solid two way wing. Again, useful.

I don't see anything in the players they are getting back. Napier is a 3rd string PG. Vonleh is a 3rd string PF. Diop showed flashes on defense but offensively has struggled. Not a rotation caliber either. Gerald Green is the best of the bunch and he is a defensive sieve. A late first from Houston? Is that all?

I just don't get it.

Why give up two young (23yo & 24yo) useful rotation players? For more depth 10-15? Denver are already one of the deepest teams in the league. They have too much depth. Need to consolidate. Improve their top 5-6 guys.

And why would you want a bunch of role players from Minnesota? Their lousy supporting cast is a big reason why they keep losing so much. Why target a team with such an inept supporting cast?

It doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't understand what they are trying to do here.

Houston: Makes sense if they are committed to small ball. They must not be scared of Zubac and must think they can defend Davis in other ways. Or maybe they have one more deal on the way.

Wolves: I like Beasley and Hermangomez a lot. Vanderbilt has some upside too. All of these might be traded for Russell, but I like the deal.

Atlanta: Good deal. Capela improves their defense immediately and is a really good lob threat that will stretch defenses vertically. Their offense and defense gets better.

Denver: Maybe they like Bates-Diop? Beasley was getting a contract next season. The first doesn't help them that much. Maybe they think Vonleh can give them some minutes as a true big to stretch the floor? Maybe they planned to trade Milsap and several firsts for Chris Paul? Seems like an incomplete trade. They made a rival team better.

Boston: I like Ainge's patience, but this one hurts a bit. This indicates to me that they like Robert Williams and think he will get healthy soon. I think they could have had Capela for Theis, Langford, and Poirier (no first). Langford is more valuable than Houston's first this year. Poirier is salary-filler. Theis is a positive role player.

Ugh, Danny should have jumped in. Hopefully, he has other options in mind. :-\

Atlanta got a good nucleus with Young, Collins & Capela

If Hunter turns into a defensive menace on the wing, they could have something there. Collins will really need to lean into the stretch aspect of his play style though. A modern team having 2 bigs will run into rampant spacing problems with those two. Collins CAN shoot, but his offensive production is awesome using his gifts inside.

I think Huerter is the second best player on that team, too. He's got to add more strength and weight, but he's a really good player.

Serious question though: If Huerter becomes a solid two-way guard averaging 18 ppg, Hunter becomes a good 3D player, what's this team's ceiling?

Is it relying on Collins to take the next step as a scorer and defender? Not sure I love that.

Yeah, I have been surprised by Atlanta's pursuit of paint-only big men. Collins' strength is interior scoring. Not perimeter play. They should be trying to keep the paint open for him to attack / exploit his greatest strengths.

They should have been trying to get a high post / stretch center.

Like Milwaukee did with Brook Lopez for Giannis.

Houston must have serious concerns about Capela's foot.  That is the only logical explanation for them making that trade and giving up a 1st in the process.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Rumors are he could probably be out for the season.
