It should be Mr. Glass Hayward instead of Gordon.  I swear modern players team medical staff look for any excuse not  to play players suffering from injuries

Fixed for you. Though I can understand if a player didn't want to risk his long term health if he wasn't totally right. Just look at Isaiah Thomas, see where that got him. A reputation as "Iron IT" but messed his body up for the long term and also millions of dollars poorer. They're not getting paid peanuts like the old days these days.

TP. I’m amazed how many people trash players for sitting with injuries. It’s an 82-game regular season, plus playoffs for the Cs. Look at the way players put their bodies at risk throughout the games - hitting the deck, crashing into other players at the rim, landing badly and on each other. It’s miles from anything in a YMCA or even div 1 college game. These guys play nicked all the time.

And it goes without saying, here goes: we want these guys healthy, gelling, and peaking for the playoffs.

I ran track/XC in high school and college. Everyone knew that the whole point of the season was to time your fitness just right so that you could race your best race late in the season, when it mattered. People sat out races, or coasted through races early in the year to prep for the championship season. But somehow in other sports, it’s the attitude of “leave it all on the court every game.” That’s a dumb mindset. Unless you’re desperately fighting for a playoff spot you gotta be strategic, take rests, time things right and peak in the playoffs.

I agree. I don't get people that question the heart, the toughness, the manhood, the dedication or the veracity of injury of players.

Calling out Hayward for missing a couple games in December when he is still having some aftereffects from a horrible leg break is really bad in my book. I saw someone do the same thing to Timelord when he has bone marrow edema!! Just unreal.

What's next? Smart is a wuss for not playing through a little infection? Poirier is not manly because all he has is a broken pinky? Just tape that sucker up and go play?

Yup, it is really ugly behavior to throw around derogatory names at players who have shown nothing but heart during their career.  Did Hayward miss a lot of games in Utah?  I don't think so.  Just wrong and poor judgement to bash players based on zero evidence.

There were no derogatory names. Just questioning of the players ability to play through pain, questioning their toughness, questioning whether they are really injured.

It’s not supremely derogatory, but “Glass Hayward” isn’t exactly supportive or kind.

Well when you know there's no risk of losing your job to injury there's less incentive to push through minor injuries.

So we can't question a players ability to be on the court or we are poor thinking humans?

You won't change my mind by insulting me. RW misses a lot of time for a lot of different reasons. My personal take is dude won't play through any type of discomfort.

ok fine

I think there are two ways of handling these things.

One way questions a players luck or his body's ability to hold up under the duress of a professional athletic career. Saying someone is injury prone when they miss a lot of games can be a very fair and accurate description of a player.

The other way questions a players heart, dedication, toughness, ability to play through pain(especially when a player has or has had a severe injury, like say a gruesome bone break or a bone edema) and is insulting of the player. This then tells me more about the person making the comment than about the person the comment is about. Take that as you will.

Sometimes people get injured a bunch of times. Do you at least see why a player wouldn’t play after diagnosis with a bone marrow edema? Look up the condition. It’s not just very painful, it also means bone strength is compromised.

I'm not questioning his injuries nor do I doubt this is significant but I do question his ability to be available over his 2 seasons here.

Not sure why questioning such things make you some sort of low brow fan.

Best ability in sports is availability.
ok fine

Saying, man he can't be available is fine. People coming on here for them jokes or comments about "toughness" though. That's a  :-X.

And its kinda all related to it being injuries. No one really minds people joking about teams/players that always seem to collapse or don't have fight in them. (Hi Knicks, Hi Atlanta, Hi "should be all-star 6-24 Trae Young")

Your greater than thou insults won't get me to change my mind.
