Celts would have to give up 4 players for Thompson.

I already proposed trading for Thompson and some of the posters here didn't like the idea because of the drama that Thompson and Chloe Kardashian would bring.
Hopefully, there would be no need to give up anybody. This thread is about potential buyout candidates, not potential trade targets. Worst case scenario, we would cut Green or dump Poirier for a second rounder.

Trading for Thompson sucks cause we'd have to match his $18,539,130 salary. Signing Thompson via the buyout market? That's a whole nother story.

I want and like TT but we can't afford him, not only money but the players to match it. If he is bought out, I'm thinking Lakers easily.
Thing is, the C's are in need of a starting caliber Center, whereas the Lakers have McGee and Howard (they are both playing pretty well this season). Not to mention, Davis can play at the 5 as well. If TT wants to showcase himself ahead of free agency, the C's would be a great fit for him.

If it's a buyout then the Celts would have to win the bidding war.

After the trade deadline last season, Kanter was rumored to be interested in signing with the Celts.

But the Blazers offered Kanter more playing time.
So Kanter chose the Blazers over the Celts.

Us Celtic fans think it's great to play for the Celts.
But that's not always the case as guys like LaMarcus Aldridge and Anthony Davis all refused to come to Boston.

If Tristan is bought out, does he really like Boston?
That's the question.
The C's are a top 3 team in the East and they are in need of a defensive Center. Basketball-wise, it's pretty much the ideal situation for Thompson. Again, he's about to hit free agency next summer. If his #1 priority is to play big minutes for a playoff team, I would argue we might be the perfect fit for him.

I agree with you.

But we're all Celtic fans here, so we would tend to think that the Celts is the perfect fit.

Maybe Tristan wants to be an actor and thinks the best fit is one of those LA teams.

There's life after basketball so we really don't know what the players prioritize, other the basketball.

Stuff like that may play a role in free agency, but no player (that isn't at the end of their career) is going to turn down a better basketball situation for 3 months of living in LA for their "life after basketball"

It's one thing when you're talking about an entire season, or someone who wants a ring/doesn't care about getting another contract, but for the end of the regular season/playoffs those goals aren't really relevant. It's just too short of a time period for stuff like that

Non-basketball wise weather/city culture can definitely play a role for bought out players, but not stuff like wanting to be an actor

Wanting to be an actor is just one example.

The point is the buyout market is not the best option because Celts have no guarantee that they'll get the player that they want.

Another example is Lebron recruiting Tristan.
Would Tristan turn down Lebron to join the Celts?

Evan Turner said he’s been told he will be inactive as the Hawks focus on rebuilding with younger talent.

He’s been a target of mine, although Wanamaker’s play has surprised me to the point where I’m not as excited.  Would still take him over Green for a playoff run, however.

I met a friend of Gortat a few months ago who said Gortat didn’t want to play in Boston because it was too cold.  He implied that he had an opportunity to join the team last year after the Clippers waived him but he declined, and ultimately doesn’t think Marcin will play in the NBA again.

I guess after growing up in Poland and spending years in Washington you’d be done with cold. Especially after experiencing Florida and Arizona.

He’d be a fun third string bruiser though. Always wanted him
