Why is Brown getting effectively no touches?
Because he's a passive player?
Still our leading scorer
Which shows he has flashes being aggressive. Still needs to become better.
It's hard to blame that on him when Brad camps him in the corner to give Tatum a post-up on Barnes, which is not an advantageous matchup at all.

Brown is like 7-8 in the paint and has taken one less shot overall than Tatum, aggressiveness is not his issue.
I already said the issue.  Brown doesn’t have the kind of game where he can score with the defense geared to stop him.
And that's a dated issue
It’s actually not.  He’s improved but still not there.
He's actually there. His handle is good enough to make him a dribble drive threat whenever he makes his move, and his midrange shooting has gotten accurate enough to pull up whenever his line to the basket gets cut off. Just because Smart and other perimeter players not named Hayward ignore him when he has a favourable matchup/position doesn't mean that he's unable to generate offense when defenses are locked in, it's just the Celtics underutilising him.

I thought Jaylen was great tonight and has been great all season. Not sure why anyone would have a gripe with him

Because they made a poor assessment of his potential in the past and don't want to own up to it. I owned up to my egregious assessment of Doncic, don't see why people aren't willing to eat crow regarding young players.

So many open threes because the Celtics sucked against the constant double screens and off ball screens. Brad had no answer for it.

Can someone tell me how we allowed three 3's in the last 2 minutes ? Did Brad refuse to double the hot hand again ? Only had gamecast to follow.

Our team was extremely undisciplined on staying with Hield pretty much the entire game.  One play Smart was out of position, sagging too far off the weak side of the court.  Sac made a cross court pass to Hield and found him wide open.

Another play Bogdonovic simply dribbled up the court, went left around a screen and found himself completely uncontested.

The other was a play where a Celtic (can't recall which one) helped too far off away from his man in the corner.  The ball was kicked to the Sac player for a wide open 3.

Our perimeter defense was really poor for lots of the game.

Only Smart, Kemba and even Brown can go through screens constantly.

That and both Kanter and Timelord couldn't find that sweet spot of staying far up enough on the 3 point line to at least partially contest the ballhandler coming off a pick while giving themselves the opportunity to recover toward the paint.

I like Timelord a lot but his defensive positioning has a long, long way to go.

Yeah, that's one area where Theis is much better than Kanter and Williams. Kanter I get because he doesn't have the ability to make up distance in case the person with the ball doesn't shoot. But Timelord is an athletic freak and does have the ability to get back if the player drives. He should be closer to those shooters.

But I do think the main reason for so many open shots was Hield was just losing guys on off ball single and double screens. Especially the double screens. Boston was awful against that tonight.

How about try doubling up on Heidl, or Middleton, or Murray, or Harden or whoever is lighting us up on any given night in any given game. Make adjustments, throw something different at them, force the ball out of the scorer's hands. Do Something Brad instead of standing over there with that dumbfounded look like, "Oh, am I the coach, you want me to say something to our players or chew on some officials ? I'm much too sophisticated for such antics."

You guys realize that if this was our team, no Hayward or Kemba (or Theis), we’d be pretty bad, right?

I was going to suggest in Brad's defense that Sac as a team was on fire from 3 pt range but that was not at all the case.  Bogdonovich was 2 for 13.

Brad maybe try doubling Hield once in awhile?  I did think that Waters gave him the most trouble mainly because of his quickness.

Pretty bad ? No. The team that played tonite still had plenty of talent and are just as capable of the improved defense we saw early this season. Tatum would have to figure out who he is offensively and Brad needs to get all involved in the offense. Id say this team, because of decent talent, tenacity, ability to gel and play together effectively, you'd be looking at a 7th or 8th seed.
