How long before Jaylen is better than Kawhi

Never.  I think he can be a multiple year all-star but I don't see him ever becoming a top 3 player in the NBA.

The big difference is defense. When Jaylen locks in he gets pretty close to Leonard's level defensively. Problem is he paces himself and doesn't always lock in.

Never. I don't think he has the physical size or strength to replicate Kawhai's game. I also don't think MVP level player is a realistic expectation for his growth.

My feeling is Jaylen's ceiling is an All-Star with fringe All-NBA aspirations. Like about the level of Kemba albeit different game in a different position. Which is a really high ceiling! Just not in that super-elite tier.

If Jaylen is in the league after Kawhi retires then probably then? Or if Kawhi has major chronic injury problems but let's not get into that.  Otherwise lol not happening.

You should take the 'if' off your major chronic injury problems unless you do not believe Kawhi and the NBA who have told you he has a chronic injury problem that requires load management.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.  Maybe if Kawhi falls off in his mid thirties and Jaylen is still going strong at that point, but that's so far out you never know.  Kawhi could be one of those superstars who manages to play his game well into his later career, whereas Jaylen might not hold up.

That is where I am at. I hope a realistic approximation of Jaylen's ceiling is somewhere between Butler and Kawhi. If I am being honest with myself, he will obviously be towards Butler on that spectrum. That ceiling has the makings of a fantastic second banana.
