Good game, a win is a win, and its great to see Hayward play up to his potential.

Some issues though from tonight's game:

-We let the Cavs hang around way too long, we should have put them away much earlier. Part of that was due to Stevens odd lineups.

-We need Jaylen's defense. The outside shooting of the Cavs killed us, not their inside play.

-Wanamaker sucks. He's selfish, reminds me of a very undersized Mook, except he's supposed to be our point guard out there.

Yeah, I can see the backcourt being a problem with injuries given that our depth is basically rookies who you expect to have inconsistent play and wannamaker who should not be playing more than 5 minutes a game.

Wannamaker was solid last year, very in control. I dunno why he suddenly becamse the embodiment of Terry Rozier. Perhaps he doesnt feel secured with his job because of Edwards and Waters?

Back on topic, please.

Once more, with feeling: the next person to post about Romeo Langford or Danny’s drafting in this thread will earn a suspension.

Let's call a spade a spade.

Talking about Romeo or Danny's drafting merits a suspension.
That's fair.

But I also think posters here calling other posters idiots should also get penalized.

Just create a separate thread.

Smart really had about 30 points he took 20 + away from Love .

IMO Gordon has to share the game ball with Marcus .  :)

Awwwww yeah.

And I won’t mind seeing Kanter in that 2d unit either. He would have dealt with Tristan Thompson’s rebounding.

Was this Gordon’s best game as a Celtic?

The Cavs bigs put pressure on big guys on the roll. I thought our bigs stayed too deep to guard the roll man, and couldn't deter the ball-handler long enough for the ball-handler's defender to get back in position.

Credit those young guards. They did a good job pushing the issue and getting good looks out of that action.

Grant Williams' height hurt him tonight. He had to stay further back to protect the roll man.

Robert Williams looked out of position a few times, but then other times looked alright. I saw positives from him tonight that gave me hope that he could be a starter by the end of the year if he stays hungry.

Theis was serviceable. Good game from him, but I'm not hopeful about his ability to anchor our defense in big games.

Tatum played tall tonight. That was good, but they still don't quite trust him to play bigs. That's probably for the best, but it would be nice to have that flexibility in small spurts.

I really think the refs kept the Cavs in the game tonight, but the Cav players played hard. They didn't roll over like they did in the preseason. That's a positive sign.

Two points to make:

Hayward is good again.

Smart basically covered Love with no help down the stretch. Lol.

Was this Gordon’s best game as a Celtic?

Absolutely. 39-8-7. He looked completely in control and competitive, not timid. That's the Hayward the Cs signed two years ago. That's the Hayward we heard about in practices all last year.

I know there's no way the shooting carries over, but I sure hope that his confidence does. He was getting where he wanted at will
I'm bitter.

I think its a bit worrying that Jaylen has defended the 4s better than Jayson so far. Good thing is he is just 21 so hopefully he can improve on that as his career goes on.

C's shot 56.5%. That will get it done. Cavs shot 41.7%... pretty amazing it was only a 6-pt game.
Speaks to the Celtics problems at the 4-5. They are a far more talented team than Cleveland, yet the Cavs had a big advantage at the 4-5 with Love and Thompson.  Plus John Beilein is proving, so far at least, to be a solid NBA coach.

The C's would have pulled away a bit more if Theis could finish, but he can't.  Until he's able to do that, he'll never be a consistent NBA starter though he's doing it here by default because at least he defends.

This was a game where Kanter could have made a huge difference, but that said, credit the Cavs with putting up some fight and the Celtics benefiting from a huge Hayward performance along with solid efforts from Tatum and Kemba.

I think its more than that. The Cavs rebounded very well where Kanter wouldve helped but our perimeter defense has been bad this game.

I wouldn't call that concerning. He is not as versatile defensively, but he is very versatile offensively. He is still a good helpside defender and consistently gets blocks and steals that are momentum-creators.

You are also comparing him to one of the most versatile defenders in the NBA. We are really lucky fans.
