Kyrie looking like he'll be an MVP candidate

He's clearly enjoying the freedom to create his own offense with no restrictions.  The most remarkable change thus far is the increase in free throw attempts.  I think Kyrie is/was craving the opportunity to play like James Harden.

I think it's him improving tbh, he had free reign in the Celtics offense.

it's similar to when he was drafted by Cleveland and had free reign there in the post-Bron era except now he as a better supporting cast.  he's an improved scorer over that time but his team's end results aren't much different.

GS W look pretty bad.

They should not have been ranked higher than Celtics in preseason poll. I doubt they make the playoffs at this rate. I mean they look awful.

They are replicating the Spurs 96-97 campaign...Tank for a HIgh pick since they do not have Klay for the season...DLo is a disaster for them so far and Dray is being exposed .

Well, the Nets are +24 with Kyrie on the court and a -18 with him on the bench, so there's that. That's a huge discrepancy in the team's quality of play with and without him.

But also, three games isn't a meaningful sample size. That said, the Nets have lost two game by a total of two points, both in OT, and in both games the Nets had the ball to end regulation with a chance to win. In the first game Jarrett Allen clanked two FT's. In the second game Kyrie had his shot blocked. Also, had Brooklyn been able to secure a defensive rebound Memphis doesn't get that last opportunity.

Kyrie didn't have nearly the same level of freedom within Brad's offense.  Take a look at his PER 36 numbers through 3 games:

FGA - 27.3 (Only 20.2 in Boston)
3PA - 11.8 (Only 7.1 in Boston)
FTA - 10 (Only 4.8 in Boston)

He has the green light to do whatever he wants on offense.  Brooklyn is playing at a very fast pace, with Kyrie and LeVert dominating the ball.  I'm also doubtful that Kyrie will be held accountable for his defensive effort in Brooklyn.

We might end up witnessing an epic regular season from Irving.  That said, it will come with diminishing returns once the playoffs arrive.

It's too early for them to be thinking that way. They are just flat out playing badly so far.

Plus this is not the draft to tank. 2021 is.

Plus lottery rules make tanking fools gold. Look at last year lottery.  Ask the Knicks.

The most shots he had in his career (over the course of a full season) was his last year in Cleveland with Lebron when he shot 19.7 shots per game.  That was also his career high in ppg at 25.2.  Per minute that is very much in line with his 2 seasons in Boston.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Tonight I'm intrigued most by Philly at ATL and Utah at Phoenix.

Never would have said that last season, right?

Teams like Hawks and Suns are really playing well early on.  Good to see. Good for the league.

It will be interesting to see if Trae Young can continue his scorching hot start to the season against the Sixers stout defense.  I'm expecting Richardson is going to hound him at times.

With the Suns, I’m wondering how much Monty Williams has turned the culture of that organization around.  I always liked him as a coach, and thought he got a raw deal in New Orleans.
