I watched most of it.  Overall I wasn't impressed. Defense was terrible, 3Q they got badly outplayed. After a good start the first unit struggled a bit and continued to struggle when Brad mixed in Kanter, Smart, Semi and finally Wanamaker. Lots of missed shots, bad passes and as was mentioned the interior defense was terrible.

I put more weight on how the first 6 or 7 play in a game like this than I do the young guys so that's what I found disappointing - especially playing against a crap outfit like Charlotte.

That said it was a first exhibition game, the first group did have their moments and Edwards & Grant Williams both look like they're going to get consistent minutes.  And Brad obviously didn't think it too important because he played his entire roster.

It does look like the chemistry is better than a year ago so that's a positive.

Other Positives-
Looking forward to watching Kemba vs watching him torch us
G. Williams
Edwards (a reserve guard who can shoot - finally!)

Negatives-
-Semi (his shooting ability is going to drive him out of the league)
-Wanamaker (stunk I thought)
-interior defense (non-existent unless you count 6'6" G Williams though he fouled a lot)
-too many turnovers (but Charlotte had even more, so - chalk it up to being a pre-season game.

Conclusion - It was a first game - and take away the rooks vs their bench - the Celtics lost the game to a lousy team. Lots of work remaining but it's nice to have some games to kick around again.

caught the game on tape delay.  my takeways:
- each starter and Smart,Kanter had their moments but for the most part they looked rough around the edges.  if four of them hadn't spent the summer playing together, I'd be less concerned but I was anticipating a bit more cohesiveness.
- tatum and Hayward looked a bit better on offense than last year.
- Brown looks like he's still going to be aggressive.
- defense was bad as was the rebounding.
- Tacko looked better than he did in summer league.
- Edwards is going to be a keeper.  kid will be instant offense for this team.
- Green did everything he could to look like he belonged.  Looked a lot better than Semi -- would not be surprised if he makes it over Semi if Semi doesn't get his shot falling in pre-season

team needs work but in the East, they should be in the fight for the 3-5 seed with Indy and Toronto behind Mil and Philly.

My son and I thought we ought to ditch Wannamaker and keep Green.  Teach Edwards to run the point so he can run it when you need it.

I would like to see Tacko against NBA rotational guys as well as Green.  Also, did Ainge bite to early on the Struss signing?

Guys like Wanamaker, Theis, and Ojeleye are trade fillers.

So there's no need to rush in getting rid of them.

But if the Celts really want to keep both Tacko and Jevonte, Ojeleye can be traded right now.
Just trade Ojeleye for a 2nd rounder that won't convey to open up another roster spot.

Javonte Green is the athlete everyone hoped Jaylen Brown would be.

True.

The difference is Brown is more of a power player while Javonte is more of a high-flyer.

Tom Westerholm: Brad Stevens says the Celtics need to improve defensively in every single area. “That was clear tonight, and it was clear before tonight.” 10 hours ago – via Twitter Tom_NBA

Celts will have another disappointing season if Ainge can't get a big man who can play good defense.

Semi and Wanna = ulcers
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

True, but Theis’ contract, specifically, was structured for future trade purposes.  Wanamaker is actually not trade filler, since he has the ability to veto any trade due to being only on a one-year deal.

Wanamaker will want to be traded once he's stuck on the bench because Carsen is getting his minutes.

uh, no.

Wanamaker spent most of last year on the bench and didn't complain.  also, if he didn't like sitting on the bench last season, he could have gone elsewhere this offseason yet he didn't.    He has every intention of staying where he'll be collecting a paycheck and seems to be wanted by the coaching staff and management.

Maybe because management promised him more playing time because Rozier will be gone.

But it's not that hard to figure out.
Kemba will be the starting PG.
Smart will backup Kemba.
Carsen will be getting the minutes at both guard spots.
That leaves Wanamaker with leftovers.
