For pick 10.7, the Portland Trailblazers will grab some offense for the bench and select ESPN's 62nd greatest player of all time, Alexander English.

Over his best 5 year period, English averaged essentially 28/5.5/4.5.  He was the leading scorer for most of those 80's seasons for the Nuggets, who during the 81-82 set the record for most points per game in a season breaking the record set by Wilt's 62 Warriors.  While he never really played with any of the league's truly great players, we think his style of play would be conducive to the fast break team oriented style of play these Blazers are putting together and welcome a legit scoring machine to the bench.

That's a downright steal.

It's mind-boggling how he was still available at this point in the draft.

I didnt like his lack of defense, lack of spacing.

Chicago sends Kevin McHale and Reggie Miller
Boston sends Scottie Pippen and Mitch Richmond

I think Chicago might have just taken themselves out of the group of elite teams. I loved McHale and Duncan together. I thought that was such a major strength for their team. Reggie Miller was fantastic as well with high efficiency scoring and both movement & gravity off the ball creating opportunities for others.

He's a HOFer and in his prime, one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the league.  To nab him in the 10th round of this thing and have him come off the bench?  That's an incredible value pick & a steal.  He's not exactly being asked to excel at both ends of the floor in that role.

Especially considering some of the guys drafted ahead of him in the past couple of rounds who really are getting overdrafted.

It is amazing how much talent is still on the board.

Not loving it for Chicago. This may have dropped them from my top 2 in the East. Will reassess later.

My thought process was that it would make my starting lineup incredibly long and even more difficult to guard. It gives me a defensive stopper on the wing that I was lacking.  I’m not concerned about the drop off from Miller to Richmond as I have enough offense off my bench.

For posts I have 3 that can play defense, rebound, and can spread the floor.

Edit:  my passing is going to be insane

He would have extended his range out to 3 in the modern NBA.  And yeah, he isn't a great defender, but he isn't being asked to be.  That said, Alex English is a MUCH better player than many of the players that have been selected today and even yesterday.  That absolutely matters.

Yeah, I have 9 top 100 players still on the board, though a few are 50's stars that I think this group of owners is avoiding like the plague.

And I have two just absolutely amazing PGs still on the board that I have very highly ranked.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
This is more of a pick of the heart than the brain. I know there are better value players out there, but God, I just love him as a player and I love his game so much, and he would be a terrific fit to our second unit, and MAY potentially start.

Keeping with the theme of defense, unselfishness, toughness and team play, we are happy to select this man.

5x All-Star
1x All NBA
1x All NBA Defensive Team

For pick 10.5, the Detroit Pistons select Al Horford.

I like the pick and the fit!

As crazy as this sounds, I'm trying to really convince myself to start him at PF alongside Alonzo Mourning. The spacing he will provide, plus the defense, will be a tremendous fit, especially for Bernard King.

You should start Horford.

Elvin Hayes is the worst passer at starting PF in this league and Alonzo Mourning (or Mutombo) is the worst passer at the starting center position (and maybe backup position) in the league. Your team needs some big man passing.

Also dropping Hondo to the bench in favour of Bernard King has compounded passing weaknesses in the starting lineup further. John Stockton can't do it all by himself. He needs some help. I'd put Hondo back into the starting lineup and Horford in there instead of Hayes too.

That's kind of my nice conundrum right now.

Starting Hondo takes away the scoring of Bernard King, and we needed scoring in the starting 5. I'm thinking I'd keep King there, for now.

Starting Horford over Big E is becoming more and more possible for me. You're right, I need some passing in that group, and Horford will be able to do it. Although to be fair, I trust Kawhi enough as a passer. He's not going to make plays for his team, but he knows how, and when to pass to an open teammate. That, along with the playmaking of John Stockton, and Al Horford, should give me enough passers on the team without sacrificing a lot more in scoring and defense.

After drafting Wilt Chamberlain and before I drafted Dirk, I was thinking of drafting Al Horford as a 5th starter. I thought he'd be a good glue guy next to Wilt. Strong physical defensive PF. Can shoot. Can pass. Good athlete. Can matchup against guys like Karl Malone but also quick dudes like Giannis. Versatile defender.

I think Horford is a really good to have coming off your bench.

Cannot match up against KAT.

Maybe. KAT is indeed talented. But I worry about if KAT can handle Kobe's attitude?

I mean, if he couldn't handle Jimmy Butler's, what more Kobe? Kobe would be much more ruthless at his lack of effort on defense. Chemistry wise, I think that can be an issue.

Al Horford would get absolutely killed by the bigs starting in this league. He, IMO, is not starting material for this game.

Ha, Jimmy Butler is there too!

I didn't think of that. Butler and Towns reunited. Oh boy.

With the 10th pick of the 10th round, the Dallas Mavericks select Mark Price!

Price was a guy I thought had a shot of going in the first 5 rounds and if not by then, then soon after. I thought folks would rate Price really high for his ability to exploit the rules of today's league. Much like Steph Curry and Steve Nash have.

I was surprised Price didn't get more fanfare.
