honestly surprised that george and pierce have already gone.

This round is just about exactly where I expected Pierce to go.  SF is a kind of awkward position in this draft after the top like 7 guys.

The Portland Trailblazers for the 7th pick in the 4th round select James Worthy.

The Blazers needed a wing and feel extremely confident that Magic's long time teammate will slot right in on the wing and mesh perfectly with the Magic, Chuck, and Moses trio.  ESPN had him as the 43rd best player of all time, which just so happens that this is the 43rd pick in the draft, so appropriately valued.

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I'll be a few minutes.

Tossing back and forth between two players.

Yeah, IMO, there has been a bunch of reaches based primarily around people going with more modern players. There has been a few selections that were, IMO, maybe 4 or more rounds too early

The thing is, you only need one season.  While I think George was too early, he just finished a season in the top 3 in both MVP and DPOY voting.  There are very few players in league history that achieved both of those things in the same season, let alone still available in round 4.

This 1 season thing is adding to a lot of this.  Maybe we should have done it best 3-4 season arc, or something like that.  It would make players like George, Giannis, etc. much less valuable overall.  Then again, maybe we don't want players like Giannis and George to be less valuable.

Yeah, but there are still MVPs, DPOYs, and Finals MVPs (not all same season of course) that are still available.  All-time great players.  If his career ended today, I don't think Paul George will be talked about 30 years from now.

Now here is a guy I think would love the three point era. For 3-4 years, he was the best guard in the NBA. I think he would be a very high efficiency scorer that could score from long range, mid range, going to the basket and getting to the line. And he was an a pretty decent defender. Nice pick. I had other SGs rated higher but in the 40-50 range, Westphal is a solid pick.

I think that it is the “show me“ aspect. You are not guessing how a player might perform in the modern era, where spacing and free throws are so important. Instead, you are relying upon how those players have actually thrived in the current era.

with the 4(9) pick in the all time great draft the Spurs looked for certain attributes.

1- PG spot
2- shooting
3- playmaking
4- style
5- toughness
6-relentless defense

in fact, my selection is regarded as one of the underrated PGs when talking about all time greats. A guys who made it to the finals with nothing of a team. A guys who made 1 dimensional players look great. a guy who showed up for big games.

A guy who in his best season averaged 24ppg, 6.5rpg, 9apg, 2spg on 35% from 3 on 6 attempts per game, but also a guy who knew how to defer and preferred to be a playmaker to being a scorer.

His heart and drive was one of the greatest of all time.

He is also the only PG to ever win defensive player of the year, and the only player to every truely slow down michael jordan.

With the pick the spurs select the man known as the glove,

Gary Payton

and goodbye to everyone's offense as I now have a best defensive team.

Wooooo!!!

Loving my team.

The defense is crushing, and fantastic fast break offense off missed shots with Yao gobbling boards, Payton and Kobe on the break and Hakeem for posting up.

For me, my choice was easy.

Elite defender, proven shooter from deep, can create for himself and others.

Loved his size at that spot as well.

Paul George will fit in quite well with my team. Looked at several lists for whoever else was available and didn't really care for anyone else at that spot.
