  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
With the 4(4) pick the San Antonio Spurs are proud to select one of the largest men to ever step on the court.
A true gamechanger based on his size alone.

Not only was he big, he is the best player equipped to defend Shaq and Wilt (as shaq himself said this was his toughest challenge)

Not only could this man defend his position, pass, block shots and rebound, he was an excellent shooter and a proper floor spacer. In the season I am looking at he played all 82 games, recording 17.5 ppg, 9rpg, 1.5apg, 2bpg on 52% from the field and 81% from the FTline.  A true professional, anyone who ever met him, loves him. He was a tremendous glue type player who gladly took a backseat to players he knew he needed to.

The SA Spurs Select the Giant, Yao Ming

This player allows Hakeem to slide over to PF where his quickness and range allows him to be dominate there, bullying smaller PFs with his strength while easily being able to keep up to them defensively.

Yeah, I hate you too.

Cowens and now Yao taken off the board!? I'm running out of bigs to get.

Assuming it didn’t get changed, I’m excited about Philly’s next pick.

Yep, love it.

Larry and Paul on the wings. Tons of shooting, tons of free throws.

People forget Paul played SG in the early 2000s.

Rd 4 pick 3 Detroit’s isiah thomas

Great pick. Isiah is another guy who I think would get a boost from playing under today's rules. All PGs get a boost from today's rules. More space. No hand-checking. Easier to get to the basket. Less big men around the basket defensively (although maybe not in our CB Historical League).

I also think Isiah would have a good three point shot.

----------------

One of the other noteworthy things I noticed in watching old all-star games was how well Isiah Thomas played. Always. Every game. He was superb. He did a brilliant job pushing the ball and getting everyone easier shots. Of making sure people were involved. He was the consummate PG. Not only that, he combined brilliantly with the talented players around him. It was like the better the talent around him the better Isiah played.

And he shot the ball much better on those All-Star teams when defenses couldn't load up on him like they could on those Pistons teams. Something else to consider when thinking how Isiah would play next to all these stars.

----------------

I will be rating Isiah as the best small PG in the draft. Or maybe 2nd best depending on Steph. I always loved Isiah and believe he'll get an added boost from playing in this era and another boost from playing alongside more talent.

Love the pick!

I remember Pierce playing SG in the early 2000s.  I remember him as a very heavy iso player.  Now perhaps that was based on need, but I think '08 Pierce is the best one for this game.  Strong enough to now defend Lebron.  A clutch performer in the playoffs.  Works great with other HOFers.  Shoots over 39% from 3 (which his HOF teammates can kick out to him).  I'd want to slot '08 Pierce into a SF role in this game.  But that's just my take.

That Yao Ming pick is surprising. Next to Hakeem and Kobe.

I was thinking way earlier that this guy could be a nice 5th starter on my team -- great defender, great shooter, seems to be the type that can accept that role.  I think you could have had him later in the draft, but I think he can fill that role.

p.s. Be sure to make it easy on nick and state your team name and which pick # you're using.

Me too. I had him pegged as a safety pick (if Pierce wasn't around). Defender, shooter. I thought he'd be there in the 5th maybe even 6th round. Obviously not. Bye bye safety pick. Enjoy Miami.

PG13 and Jerry West. The ones that got away -- from Wilt's grasp to Shaq's clutches.

I love that he can defend, and alter shots and spread the floor.

My front court is a biggest, and the best thing Yao brings is being able to take a back seat.

I think 4 of the last 8 picks have been players that I would have had pegged for later rounds. In the cases of some, much later rounds.
