It's toughto read, but helpful, maybe.

Looking it, Tremont Waters is pretty small. Isaiah Thomas was a real outlier, so while he has had success, it's not guaranteed.


Carsen in interesting. He has a really quick trigger, good range, and doesn't need much space; we'll see if size is a concern. Here are several players in his height range, so I don't think it is an absolute no; Kemba has been great, Patty Mills and DJ Augustin had their moments.

At the very least, it is helpful to see how much people round up. I mean, Russell Westbrook is 6' 2.25".



Now, I'm pretty high on Grant Williams in general; we'll have to see how he does; strength, passing, shooting, and positioning/team defense will have a lot to do with it. He is taller than Dejuan Blair, who had some good moments until his knees gave out (which was the knock on him in the draft). Same height as Draymond, almost same as Kawai, Roberson, and Faried.

The name right next to Grant is the name that I'm worried about as a sort of worst-case scenario.  Luke Harangody had a fairly similar profile coming into the NBA:  strong but undersized and not very athletic, prolific college scorer, good rebounder, made an effort to become more perimeter-oriented as his college career went on.  Ultimately could never overcome his lack of size and athleticism in the NBA.

I do think Grant is more athletic than Harangody (though still not a leaper by any stretch; a slight disadvantage rather than a crippling one), and he has much better defensive instincts which will hopefully help him carve out a role.  He also had more success expanding his range in college; Harangody was very inefficient on his jumpshots while Williams was very good inside the arc.  So there are reasons for optimism.  Still, the comp is there.

Just not sure what to think about G Williams. Whatever his listed height may be, when he was out there on the floor in Summer league he looked like a muscular SF, and he isn’t quick off the floor. I’m looking at him (hopefully incorrectly) as a less athletic PJ Tucker.

Yeah, we'll see. Grant seems stronger, much better defensive positioning, and much much better instincts as a facilitator on offense.

Where’s Jason Tatum?

A lot of big names will be missing, because a lot of guaranteed top picks don't bother going to the combine. No upside, only potential downside. So players only go if they think going will move them up a few spots. Tatum likely knew he was top 3 guaranteed, so didn't bother.

I have no faith in GW or Waters. So every thing is gravy if they make it. Right now Gomes for GW and West for Waters as far as careers and I'd consider them successful.
