Timing is curious. Why now? I know he sucks but it feels like they need they spot for something...

Could be they’re just ready to move on.  Summer league showed he had no future on the team.  It’s the offseason, and teams, including those outside the NBA, are making their roster decisions now.  Cut him and let him try to make a career elsewhere, as opposed to holding onto him for three more months while his other opportunities dry up.

That’s the most likely reason I can think of.

If I wasn't so lazy I'd dig up some of the old Yabu the French Draymond posts.

If I remember correctly CB forum was heavily drinking the Yabu Kool aid and I was flamed for saying I saw nothing but an overweight below the rim undersized big that had no clear NBA skill set.

Beyond that how do you show up to summer league out of shape when your season just ended? You don't care enough when something like that happens.
ok fine

if no one signs Yabu, we could see him signed to Maine (unaffiliated) right?  Very well liked, so I think it's possible.

Doubt it.  If both sides were interested in that, he’d at least go to training camp.

I think for that to happen, he would need to be waived and not get signed (or choose to go overseas)....then any g league deal could happen and he'd then likely go to camp as a body

SOmeone really needs to take the reigns from Danny Ainge in draft night

This pick was questioned from the start.  The intent was clearly to pick someone they could stash but as I recall, we probably could have picked him later and gotten someone better at 16.
They couldn't have the 16th pick's salary on the books and go for the KD/Horford combo they wanted.

OK, that sounds like a great rationale for why they reached some with Yabu.  They needed to stash the higher salary.  Makes sense  Thanks

I don't really feel bad for Yabu, because they still have to pay him every penny they owe him after they wave him. He's probably going to move home and get a contract for one million next year, which will be money earned on top of the NBA salary he is receiving.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

If we waive and stretch yabu don’t we open up enough space to get a salary dump from a team that needs to get under the cap?
Can we get Patterson from OKC with a second rounder and $ 3-4M attached?

Best for everyone. Yabu is simply not an NBA player. He was taking up space.

yep. good riddance. was terrible. if tacko can just rebound and shot block as a 4th big end of bench he brings more to the 5 spot than yabu did at his respective postion. that is how bad he was. wasted pick. i knew he would never pan out. stated it here many times.

Tacko is more than that, as I pointed out in another post. He was a 75% shooter in college. That's equivalent to a 50% 3P shooter. You feed him the ball down low, it's 2 points.
He shot 43% from the FT line. On a lot of attempts. He was even worse last year at 36%

That's to a level where it is hard to keep him on the floor offensively.

Repeatedly fouling him puts the other team over the foul limit. That's what happened in last night's game. There's value in that alone.

Yeah, let the other team foul a lot—I'd love for Boston to be in the bonus with 9 minutes to go in the quarter.

Edit: And I'm happy the cut Yabu loose; he just isn't an NBA-caliber player.

Given his position in each draft, Danny has done just fine. Picking after the top 10 or so is pretty much a crap shoot, and they have only had a few picks in that top group, and those have been good players, Brown, Tatum, Smart.

For the record, none of these guys are doing a thing in the nba worth their pick:

Outside of the top ten, he’s done a terrible job and our roster shows it:

Jjj/Etuan-JJJ trash.  Etuan was ok

Jelly olynyk-soft trash

Rozier-ego centric ball hog.

Sully-great value pick.  Who knew cheeseburgers would be his kryptonie

James young-the Gatorade bucket was more useful

I mean seriously what a waste of assets.  I hope/think this years will be better.

There are some bad picks there. You left out some others Ainge has taken outside the top ten:

15 Al Jefferson; 24 Delonte West; 25 Tony Allen. Two solid NBA starters, one fringe starter.

18 Gerald Green. No superstar, but a long NBA career because he has useful skills. Good value at 18!

21  Rajon Rondo. Nuff said.

19 Avery Bradley. This was the *19th pick*.

27 Rob Williams - who knows? Even if he flames out it's hard to call missing on the 27th pick a terrible job.

Also - Olynyk was a pretty average pick at 13. You're going to bash Ainge for missing on JJJ (27th pick) or E'Twaun Moore (55th)?

E'Twaun Moore was a great pick for #55.

He has played in 515 NBA games at 21.7 MPG.

He has career shooting stats of .458/.392. Last year he shot .481/.432. Dude is already 30 and should be around for a while longer.

That is pretty incredible for someone drafted #55.

You really think a player who cannot defend, cannot shoot, and can be fouled at any point he actually has an advantage to give up an average of .8 PPP is going to be a positive because he gets the C's to the bonus quickly?

*sigh* why play basketball when you can have a novelty act?

Do you two think Andre Drummond a good offensive player?

Yeah, most of those "bad" picks came late teens into the 20's, those are always crap shoots. KO v Giannis is probably the worst, I think DA thought Giannis would be there on their next pick, and the MAvs were going to take KO, so he kinda out smarted himself, trying for a safe first pic and then the project one, who really would have known that he was going to explode.

So far all the picks and the pick up of Tacko have been really good out side of Langford who we haven't seen. Edwards will have a  spot playing the back up PG with the green light to shoot. Not sure about Time Lord, might take an other year, which is maybe why they got the foreign guy(can't remember off the top of my head) MAzz called him the French Tickler, LOL. It gives Williams an other year to really work and maybe get more playing time.

The last few years have been more hits than misses, remember the booing and the message board going off when DA took Brown over Dunn? So far so good on that one.
