The timing is interesting to me. Why waive him now if they don't have someone to replace him in mind. If they just wanted to spot it would have made more sense to wait until the end of the offseason to deal him in case they needed his salary in a trade.

I expect a signing or a trade to replace his roster spot to come soon.

In retrospect they should not have picked up his option last year. Had they not picked up his option they would have $3.5 more MM to spend on the free agent market.

Tacko on the roster would be good, but I would rather see him replace Strus as the 2nd 2 way and sign/trade for an immediate rotation guy.

I didn't see Strus.  What does he do?  How did he grab a two way?

He’s pure 3&D.  He obviously impressed the C’s in workouts and was certainly on their draft board.  They signed him to a 2-way minutes after the draft ended, because they knew they wanted him.  He started his college career in D-2 before moving up to DePaul for two seasons, in which he set school records for 3s.

He’s a good guy for a two-way.  The type of replacement level guy you can call up for a few games when everyone’s is hurt/sick and the send back down when you don’t need him.  Think Chris Babb but not on 10-day contracts.

Got it.  Thanks!

SOmeone really needs to take the reigns from Danny Ainge in draft night
Given his position in each draft, Danny has done just fine. Picking after the top 10 or so is pretty much a crap shoot, and they have only had a few picks in that top group, and those have been good players, Brown, Tatum, Smart.

For the record, none of these guys are doing a thing in the nba worth their pick:

Outside of the top ten, he’s done a terrible job and our roster shows it:

Jjj/Etuan-JJJ trash.  Etuan was ok

Jelly olynyk-soft trash

Rozier-ego centric ball hog.

Sully-great value pick.  Who knew cheeseburgers would be his kryptonie

James young-the Gatorade bucket was more useful

I mean seriously what a waste of assets.  I hope/think this years will be better.

This pick was questioned from the start.  The intent was clearly to pick someone they could stash but as I recall, we probably could have picked him later and gotten someone better at 16.

In general, I am not that critical of draft mistakes.  Drafting is a crap shoot.  I am fine with DA's overall track record.  You are going to have some misses.  it is just the nature of the game.

As to being waived, I find it surprising.  It must mean they want to lock up Tacko Fall for a few years.  It is probably worth it.  Tacko has a lot more ceiling than Yabu based on what is known right now about the two players.  Yabu appears to have taken a step back.  The odds are not good for Tacko in my opinion but better than for Yabu who at this point appears to have no chance to be anything.

Olynyk isn't a great NBA player, but he's a fine result for the 13th pick. Only Giannis/Gobert stick out as being far better than him later in the draft.

They couldn't have the 16th pick's salary on the books and go for the KD/Horford combo they wanted.

Thank you!

People are always pulling out the players they really hate and grading Danny on that alone. You have to go through the draft and look at where the Cs were picking and how the competition has done in similar spots. Here's a deep dive from 2017 that makes the argument they've been a little better than average - and this was written before the Cs stole Tatum and the pick that turned into Langford, while avoiding the disaster that is Markelle Fultz: http://www.celticshub.com/2017/06/21/grading-ainge-drafts/

Tacko would be great here.  Obviously he’s a draw.  And for all the minutes yabu played, he can play the same amount and actually have some useage.

Just glad they cut Yabu this quickly. Give others a chance and now you can add hopefully someone that can actually play.

Good riddance. His lack of improvement over the last 3 years has been majorly disappointing.

Yabu is wasting his talent.

He also missed on giannis, Butler, jusef, etc.  I get it, it’s a risk for every gm, but man Danny takes some big reaches outside the top 10 which he doesn’t have to do.  And most of the time he’s the only one doing it.  HEs goig into the draft for needs at the 4 and 5 and he passes over them to grab a pg/sg with a bad thumb?  Seriously?  No know on Langford as I think he’ll be fine, but if you’re gonna take risks, do it in areas of need.

There are some bad picks there. You left out some others Ainge has taken outside the top ten:

15 Al Jefferson; 24 Delonte West; 25 Tony Allen. Two solid NBA starters, one fringe starter.

18 Gerald Green. No superstar, but a long NBA career because he has useful skills. Good value at 18!

21  Rajon Rondo. Nuff said.

19 Avery Bradley. This was the *19th pick*.

27 Rob Williams - who knows? Even if he flames out it's hard to call missing on the 27th pick a terrible job.

Also - Olynyk was a pretty average pick at 13. You're going to bash Ainge for missing on JJJ (27th pick) or E'Twaun Moore (55th)?

SO it’s seems he’s losing his touch lol.  I am optimistic about this years draft but then I was happy with rj hunter and wanted him to snag PERRY JONES III :-[

I also wanted Perry - but he flamed out didn't he? Should Danny have known to draft Caris LaVert or Pascal Siakem? At least he got someone French! (Although I think LaVert just has a French sounding name.)

Maybe he can catch on somewhere else. He didn't fit our style of play.

I just hope that they don't waste the last roster spot on Waters. He needs to play in Maine for a year. Give the last spot to a vet that can be a rotation player.

Per source, the Cs in the coming weeks could fill the 15th roster spot created by Guerschon's departure, but there's still a good chance that there will be more change before opening night.
