Just saw that tweet as well, it seems we're in play on the trade market still. I wonder if Danny is looking to be the third team in a RW trade, or some other OKC related transaction.

Per source, the Cs in the coming weeks could fill the 15th roster spot created by Guerschon's departure, but there's still a good chance that there will be more change before opening night.

This is so vague... ::)

Olynyk isn't a great NBA player, but he's a fine result for the 13th pick. Only Giannis/Gobert stick out as being far better than him later in the draft.
Robert Covington as well (he went undrafted).  There are around 10 players clearly ahead of him and then it gets a bit more interesting as he is probably in the same general range of 5 to 10 other players (guys like Schroder, Roberson, Dieng, Plumlee, Zeller, Len, etc.).  Not a hit, but not a miss of a draft pick either given he goes in the same general range as he actually went if the draft was re-done today.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

This is ominous in my opinion.  The only holdovers who did not get brought back in free agency from last year’s roster are now:

Hayward
Smart
Tatum
Brown
Ojeleye
Williams

Presumably none of them are getting cut, with the small exception of Robert Williams if it’s just not working out and they don’t want to pick up his option for next year.  You wouldn’t expect anyone just signed or drafted to be cut.  So that means a good chance of a significant trade, since only these guys plus the draftees can be traded before opening night.

Yeah, I agree. The only one I can see being traded is Brown. Maybe they've internally determined he's not worth the (lesser) max moving forward? I don't really want them to trade anyone young, we aren't winning a championship either way next year.

Also: Unless a trade is already agreed upon and a roster spot is needed, why would Celtics cut Yabu prior to making a hypothetical trade? Wouldn’t you want ability to use his salary in a deal?

SOmeone really needs to take the reigns from Danny Ainge in draft night

This pick was questioned from the start.  The intent was clearly to pick someone they could stash but as I recall, we probably could have picked him later and gotten someone better at 16.

In general, I am not that critical of draft mistakes.  Drafting is a crap shoot.  I am fine with DA's overall track record.  You are going to have some misses.  it is just the nature of the game.

As to being waived, I find it surprising.  It must mean they want to lock up Tacko Fall for a few years.  It is probably worth it.  Tacko has a lot more ceiling than Yabu based on what is known right now about the two players.  Yabu appears to have taken a step back.  The odds are not good for Tacko in my opinion but better than for Yabu who at this point appears to have no chance to be anything.

Tacko would be great here.  Obviously he’s a draw.  And for all the minutes yabu played, he can play the same amount and actually have some useage.

Aside from being a draw, he was a 75% shooter in college. That's equivalent to a 50% 3 point shooter!

You feed that guy with high passes down low, it's an almost automatic 2 points.

Ainge and Stevens have sufficient knowledge of arithmetic to figure that out.

Per source, the Celtics might even ultimately add 2 more players and enter training camp with 16 guaranteed contracts, as they've done in the past. It's pretty clear that with so many young guys and unknown quantities, they want to get a look at as many players as possible.

And since plenty are asking, as of now there are no plans for Tacko Fall to claim the Celtics' 15th roster spot. Plan is still for him to enter camp on his Exhibit 10 deal and proceed from there.

TP, no kidding. It’s the equivalent of the fortune teller who says, “I’m sensing that there has been a change in your life recently...”

Best for everyone. Yabu is simply not an NBA player. He was taking up space.

yep. good riddance. was terrible. if tacko can just rebound and shot block as a 4th big end of bench he brings more to the 5 spot than yabu did at his respective postion. that is how bad he was. wasted pick. i knew he would never pan out. stated it here many times.

Tacko is more than that, as I pointed out in another post. He was a 75% shooter in college. That's equivalent to a 50% 3P shooter. You feed him the ball down low, it's 2 points.

if no one signs Yabu, we could see him signed to Maine (unaffiliated) right?  Very well liked, so I think it's possible.

He shot 43% from the FT line. On a lot of attempts. He was even worse last year at 36%

That's to a level where it is hard to keep him on the floor offensively.

Doubt it.  If both sides were interested in that, he’d at least go to training camp.

Timing is curious. Why now? I know he sucks but it feels like they need they spot for something...

Repeatedly fouling him puts the other team over the foul limit. That's what happened in last night's game. There's value in that alone.

A big man who cannot shoot from the field outside the paint or the foul line is a net negative on offense that is difficult to cover for.

Add in the fact Tacko is also limited defensively?

The entire reason Boban is a viable rotation player at his size/speed is that he's actually a pretty good shooter.
