Gotta be one of the worst mid-1st round picks I can remember.  He never came close to looking like an NBA player.

It was a bad pick, no doubt, but it hardly stands alone. Just in the same year as Yabu, the 13th pick was Georgios Papagiannis (still the highest-picked Greek!) who got minutes in only 39 games during his three-year nba career, despite playing on some bad teams, and was Yabu-level in his production (12 mpg, 4 ppg) before washing out. Henry Ellenson was picked 18th, played in 71 games over his four years, averaging under 10 mpg and putrid stats before being waived by the Knicks (now that’s a bad sign!).

Passed on Brogdan and Siakim for Yabu...SMH
I mean we also passed on Wade Baldwin/Henry Ellenson/Brice Johnson  ;)

Clearly a bad pick who never did much, but that's what happens when you go into it predetermined to stash a player.

Hey, watch the subtle sarcasm on a guy's former binkie...

At least they waived him early enough to get a job here or elsewhere. There was no point in holding onto him until next fall.

Adding a vet min guy who’s a good locker room presence - and subtracting a guy who doesn’t seem to work all that hard - seems like a low-key useful move.

Turns out he was the French Robert Tractor Traylor.

Well we do have another potential “poor man’s Draymond Green” in Grant Williams. Kind of makes sense to cycle him out. Plus Tacko may replace his end of bench novelty (the scal role).
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

It was my impression that everyone loved Yabu.  He may be missed...off the court.

Considering the awkward timing of this step, I'm thinking that the other shoe is going to drop very soon.

Wonder if Livingston is in play for Boston

My thinking as well.

I am wavering between wanting Tacko signed and wanting to sign another vet...

-3rd year player still in the SL is a terrible look
-Coming in fat and out of shape is a terrible look

Just thankful he is gone. He was already lapped by Grant Williams and several other of the SL players.

Ainge adding a vet seems like the smart play.

You win some you lose some. Too bad. I like the guy on a personal level. Just couldn’t elevate his game. His weight didn’t help. We’re there reports he was out of shape or is that just speculation?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I'd rather Danny miss on a couple of his mid-late 1sts rather than his super-high picks. In Jaylen's draft, we could have selected: Bender, Chriss, or Dunn. In Tatum's draft, we could have ended up with Fultz or J Jackson. Even in Smart's draft, there were misses like Wiggins, Parker, Exum, Vonleh, and Stauskas.

These teams (PHX amazingly have three of those choices) completely screwed themselves and had a totally wasted season(s) of tanking. I, too, would like to end up with a major draft steal - maybe it will happen this year with one of our 3 guys - but selecting correctly at the top of the draft is infinitely more important.
