1. Any scenario that has us contending next season involves AT LEAST one of Tatum/Brown/Hayward performing like a clear All-Star. I think Tatum needs to show he can get there and I think Hayward will look much better. But that's the only path right now, Kemba or not.
2. If next season Tatum and Hayward DO take steps forward, let's say make the All-Star team - but we opted NOT to acquire Kemba and are instead starting either a second/third-tier FA or Smart - that's going to be a waste and look really dumb.
3. If next season Tatum/Brown make progress but are still not All-Star level, they still need to be in an environment where they compete every night and have a good team. We bottom out, those guys are not going to be happy and then what - they leave? We just suck for a few years and try to develop them? How do you develop guys like that who have been in the playoffs a few years already? We have to be competitive for the best version of those guys to emerge.
