Can anyone think of a big man that needs to re-establish their value in the NBA that would like the playtime opportunity in Boston?  (like Lopez last year)

How about Robin Lopez?
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I’m not sure why we would target a high price PG when we have a starting quality PG who bleeds Celtics pride on the roster. we have a much greater need for a center.

I’d much rather absorb Adams or Capela into space and sign a mid level type back up point guard.

OR

you can sign Kemba and use the mid level to sign Vonleh

Adams nor Capela fit into CBS system (starter).  He wants guys who can shoot (thats why even Baynes was encouraged to shoot the open 3). Adams is 0-7 in 3 pt shots for his career.  Capela also doesn't shoot the 3

If those kind of centers fit into the system

Danny/CBS would have drafted Bidatze or Bruno Fernado.  Not Grant Williams imo

If true, why did we draft Robert Williams first round last season? Not for his 3 point shooting.  Things change, Tr1boy.

Also Al Horford didn't start shooting 3's until age 29, Baynes didn't start shooting 3's until  the playoffs at age 31  Brook Lopez didn't start shooting 3's until age 28.  Just because a guy isn't shooting 3's now, doesn't mean he can't or that it's not an area that can be developed.  You can even watch multiple videos of Dwight Howard raining 3's in practice (here and here) if you really want to dream about bigs developing a 3 point shot.

Hayward was on a podcast and said Williams was working hard on his 3pt shot. Didn't say if it was going good or not, but at least he's working on it.

From what I remember in the pre-draft videos, Williams actually had a passable mid-range jumper. Of course it wasn't a strength of his coming out, but I can totally see him being able to improve his consistency and range. He isn't exactly starting at Shaq territory. It's all about the amount of work he is putting in - his ceiling is still pretty high.

It's not a reason to sign Walker, but there would be some delicious irony in Irving leaving, only for us to sign the guy who's basically his closest replacement except with better chemistry, leading us to a deep playoff run while Irving either (a) languishes in BKN for a year while KD rehabs, or (b) goes crawling back to Lebron.

I truly hope you are right and we have good chemistry. Still a lot of mouths to feed. Kemba jacked up 20 shots a game last year in Charlotte at low efficiency. I'm really hoping he'll take that number of shots down considerably (along with his Usage%) to spread the ball around.

If he plays the same as last year in Charlotte he won't work here IMO.
I think you have to consider that Horford's, Rozier's and Morris' shots are now up for grabs. That's 30 shots that need to be distributed. I am not sure a starting center gets more than 8-9 shots in this offense and if Langford and Williams are added to the rotation(or vet mins that get PT over the rookies) they aren't taking a lot of shots. I think those shots could give Hayward, Brown and Tatum somewhere between 3-5 more shots a game.  I can easily see

Kemba 18 FGA
Brown 13 FGA
Tatum 16 FGA
Hayward 13 FGA

And then people like Smart, the starting center, and the 7th man in the rotation all getting 8 FGA each then smaller numbers for players lower on the Totem pole.

Also keep in mind that most of the players Kemba played with in Charlotte were not great offensively. Kemba had to jack up shots to keep Charlotte competitive.

Well, it took a few days for me but I am all aboard the get  Kemba in Green train. Everything I read about him says Celtics passion to me. I will grow to love his attitude more then the one who came before him for sure. Here is hoping he puts up another 36 and a win on Kyrie during a seventh game playoff game sometime soon. Get him Danny!

Well regardless I am not excited about this move at all.

I feel like we're replacing Kyrie with a slightly less talented Kyrie... And we know how how last year went.

What direction are they taking this team? I have no idea. The Jays are still going to be behind a dominant point guard.

I'll save any further judgement for how we do next year and how the roster actually fills out.

So Irving is talented, but how far did that really get us? I mean there are some players not in the NBA who can handle better, shoot better, jump higher, but they don't have the things it takes to win games. Walker has had little to no help yet every year his team gets in, or just misses the playoffs.

So talent wise Irving is better on individual skills, but Walker could be the better player when it comes to the team. He's also right in his prime, he's either looking for massive payday, or rings. He's already said he'd take less than supermax, which means he wants to win. He's going to be motivated to win, maybe more than Irving who already has a ring, and seems to want to look good for him self, where Walker seems to do what it's needed to win games.

It sounds wierd, but it's a step back in talent, but possible step forward in player.

Woj said later on SportsCenter: "Barring an unforeseen change, Kemba Walker is going to leave Charlotte. He's going to head to Boston"

Very strong wording

I too feel that kemba is the better fit.  This Celtics team struggled against Kyrie leadership rather than flow with it.  Kemba mentality way healthier for our locker room and where we want to go as a team.  I hope we get him!!

Wow, I love his game, he killed us(Irving), twice. Great Pg, gets to the line.

Right now, it’s all about the price tag, I just hate how these days everyone is a supermax, max player or whatever.

I was kinda hoping to see Smart get the starter nod, but you know him, he’ll still get 30+ min.

On the side note, does that get horford to change his mind and take a paycut.

Side note #2, terry is now surely gone, right?

yes, kemba is good.

not everyone gets the supermax. check salaries in the nba to learn about this and smart is one example of someone who did not get it.

horford - in order to sign kemba, the celtics HAVE TO first get rid of horford's salary or there is no room to sign kemba. once kemba is signed, the celtics cap space is functionally burned up so there is not room for horford at his asking price.

horford would have to accept something such as a $4-5 million dollar offer. which he will not do.

Didn't Haynes on Yahoo reported that Kemba Walker doesn't want to go anywhere but Charlotte? Please clarify.

I really hope he lands in Boston as per my guy Woj.

That was during the all-star break.

Stephen A Smith says Charlotte offered him a 5 year 160 million dollar contract, Celtics are offering 4 year 140 million dollar contract. (likely with a player option for the last year)

So they were offering him a worse deal to stay with a worse team. Smith says its done and he's coming to Boston.

At first I hated the Kemba idea but he isn't bad at all after looking at his stats

I bet in a better environment like here he will improve
