I think everyone needs to manage their expectation. If he exceeds Boban levels of contribution I will be impressed. But for minimum cost there's no downside.
i agree. from what i hear the guy can only shoot lay ups and dunks. his FT% is 36.2%.

it will be interesting to see whether he ever develops any shooting skills, but for now maybe we should be patient and not put up high expectations.

36.2%!?!??!

Hacko-Tacko

😁

Cant he just extend his long arm over the foul line and place ball into hoop? Hope he is practicing daily with those ft’s.

His feet is gonna get hurt just running down the floor no-contact.

It's what killed Yao Ming's career. Being over 7'5" ain't that fun in basketball.
Yao Ming only got hurt because the Rockets coach insisted on playing him 33 or more MPG. Tacko isn't going to play more than 15 MPG lol.

This isn't about Tacko making it or not but I think science has changed, people know how to take care of their bodies so much better/injury prevention. Of course people will still get injured, big bodies flying around and all, but they bounce back faster and return to form much more (opinion because I have no facts). Also, more and more teams don't force minutes on people or let them sit out maintenance games. Tacko could fall apart but I think he lucked out in a time where they put more into health and recovery than they did in the past. They even have mental health stuff which in itself can take stress off your body. Look how much people are talking about sleep, you think players in the 90s were thinking about getting good rest? People would be playing whole games multiple times a season, now people get up in the mid 30s and they say that's a lot of minutes. Times have changed.

I see what you did there, Shakity.

then there is this from wikipedia... he maintained a 4.0 grade point average in high school, while taking advanced mathematics and science classes. he became fluent in English within 8 months and scored in the 95th percentile on the SAT.

ha ha ha...with him and grant on the team, no way other players can talk about a flat earth.  ;D

the more i see the posts above and think about Tacko the more i think CBS might find a niche for him on the team. crucial rebounding situations at the end of the game; one possession defense down low; or fronting an entry pass at crucial moments.

if he can even get into shaq range for FT, he will have a role with the celtics.

summer league should be fun.

lol I see what you did there!!!

Danny is trying to make up for all the years that he did not sign a rim protector by signing Tacko.

Just a few notes on Tacko:

HS 4.0 GPA
SAT scores 95th percentile
Majored in Chemistry and Engineering at UCF. Settled on Engineering. One of the top students in the department.
Mastered English language in 8 months/his family is Senegalese .

I'm glad he's getting a shot here. If he doesn't? No problem, he'll get a job at Raytheon or something in a minute.

I don't think it hurts to have a high IQ. Sounds like an instant buddy for Jaylen Brown.

I don't know why you'd take issue with someone merely enjoying that the C's have picked up a very very smart 7'7" guy.

It's a super easy way to raise the average height of the team. No need to go for a lot of tall guys, just get one or two freakishly tall ones
I'm bitter.

Probably nothing, but if he becomes a bball player of note, it could be huge for black kids everywhere to see. You can both excel in academia and sports and have it be a cool thing. Even if he doesn't make it as a pro, he can show kids that it's okay to be educated and not have to rely solely on sports to make a life for yourself.

Not everything has to relate to what someone can or cant do on the court. JB is a good example, people say he has a low bball IQ (I dunno), but off the court the guy has spoken at Harvard and more. Sports aren't the be all and I like that athletes are representing different things that those coming behind them can see and say "I can do that too!"

This isn't an argumentative post, just saying I like it when I find out that these guys are more than athletes. If people are already thrusting being a role-model on them, it's nice to see people who value more than the stereotypes of money and women (not saying they don't enjoy those things too :D).
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

and in case this board is interested, in the second round ainge drafted two players - one is 6 feet tall, the other 5 feet 11 inches tall.

but, if we average in Tacko, it comes to around 6'5". the perfect ainge height according to some of you.  ;D

I saw a video of him in class, and he's quite a precocious guy. Likes math and science, and can do a lot of compex math in his head.

Ainge likes smart guys. They can learn quickly. Brown is another. And then the forward they just drafted who turned down Harvard and Yale for Tennessee.

His coach said he coached Horford. Did Horford go to UCF?
