Interesting tweet from Al's sister though - from a few minutes ago:

https://twitter.com/AnnaHorford/status/1142066822558244865

Read into it what you will.

At face value, she's simply saying "Wish I could tell you everything I know, but I can't".

sounds like something. She could blab all she wants it Horford was just plan leaving. S&T could be in the works.

But it’s pretty bizarre how quickly this broke.

Out of nowhere they ceased communication? I can’t see how Horford and his agent could be so adamant about a large deal when he doesn’t know his market value. If he/his agent went to Ainge with an alleged offer, that’s clearly blatant tampering. If he just believes he’s worth 4/100, I don’t know why it’s a foregone conclusion he was leaving when that offer may not come from anyone.

I’m curious to see what the true story is, hopefully we get it shortly after the moratorium ends.

My hope on Ainge's tweet (and Al's sister's tweet) is they have a sign-and-trade in place for Horford.  Either for Capela or Adams.  Horford met with both teams OKC and the Rockets in 2016 before signing with the Celtics, and was supposedly high on both.

OKC has the college coach connection, and supposedly Horford didn't go to OKC then because he didn't know if Durant/Westbrook would be around long term.  Now with Westbrook/George both signed to long term deals and the team still looking to contend, that's no longer a concern.  "Thunder general manager Sam Presti confirmed Horford was 'really, really interested' in the Thunder" back in 2016.

And then with Houston, Al Horford said said his dad was heartbroken he didn't sign with the Rockets in '16, because the family has a lot of friends in that area (it's where Tito Horford went to high school):

Quote
HOUSTON – Boston big man Al Horford said he was impressed with the Houston Rockets' free-agency pitch over the summer.

It was a difficult decision for Horford, whose dad wanted him to play for the Rockets.

Horford, who eventually signed a four-year, $113 million deal with the Celtics, had one of his first free-agent meetings with the Rockets, with Hall of Famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler among those in attendance.

“It was a privilege,” Horford said. “[Olajuwon] and Clyde were there, and my dad went to high school [Marian Christian] here in Houston, and he was pushing Houston hard. Hakeem, to him, was a big deal, and for me to be able to talk with him and spend some time. At the end of the day, just looking at the future and everything, I felt like here in Boston was going to be a better fit for me in the long run.”

Rockets guard James Harden was also part of Horford's recruitment.

“I thought we had a really good chance, but obviously it didn’t work out, which is fine,” Harden said.

Horford said the toughest thing was making the phone call to his father telling him he wouldn’t sign with the Rockets.

“Definitely my dad, he loves it here,” Horford said. “We have a lot of friends of the family here who live in the area, and he was heartbroken. He’s happy for me at the end of the day -- it was definitely a tough call.”

Ainge can't talk about it yet, because technically those teams can't negotiate with Horford yet, but it's been agreed to via back channels.  That's my hope at least, best way not to lose Horford for nothing.

I think we all think that tampering occurred.  Nobody is going to talk about that, though.

If a Horford sign and trade is in the works, I wouldn't mind him going to Houston or OKC (two places he was interested in last time around) for Capela or Adams.

The Rockets get another option with Harden and we get a younger, rim-protector.

So then, we can pivot and try to sign Tobias Harris as our power forward.

Another option is we just keep Horford. At least we know what we're getting and could be a safety net in case we can't get another free agent. Just give him the 4 year deal.

Keeping him doesn't sound so bad if the alternative is total uncertainty.....

I think Baynes being traded is pretty much confirmation that Horford and Kyrie are gone.

Yup, very good possibilities. Would be happy with either one.

It just amazes me that some team will offer him a substantially similar deal, and the league will turn a blind eye to tampering.

OKC doesn’t make much sense simply because they are in luxury tax hell.  I thought they were looking into trading Adams into someone’s cap space as a salary dump.

Does the NBA go after tampering independent of a request to investigate?  IE, would the Celtics need to complain to the NBA office about it before they would investigate it?

My guess is yes, the Celtics would need to complain.  And they very well could.  Depending on the team, the Celtics could work out a sign-and-trade for something as a way to resolve a complaint absent league action (my guess is the NBA would prefer that).  If it’s a team without tradable draft assets however, like the Lakers or the Mavs, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a complaint.
