So Jvalin brought back up Thomas Bryant. According to him Washington can't match salaries over $9,073,050, details on Bryant: https://forum.celticsstrong.com/index.php?topic=100549.msg2694021#new

I'm very high on Julius Randle and I don't think he'll command a max contract.

If we can sign both Randle and Bryant on 4-year deals (for example 80 and 48 million each) I'd find that an absolute dream scenario. They complement each other's qualities quite well. No more small ball!

Who's in agreement?

I like Bryant and Bobby Portis. Though Randle is a good player don't know if he would be okay with being in and out of lineups depending on matchups. Portis seems to not care either way and can get hot from outside.

Sounds like we're trying to clear up some cap space. But for whom?

Can't imagine that we're going to be offering someone like Middleton, or even Kemba Walker, a max. So who do we think we will end up with?

Mike

There's an article I read where the Celts might be open to absorbing a bad contract as long as it is sweetened by draft picks, preferably lottery picks.

So that's one potential use of the max cap space.

I can’t see that. Danny just traded a first for someone to take baynes’ one year, $5 million off the books. He clearly has a signing in mind, imo.

If romeo can play point I like the selections more. But I dont know.

As for signings.

Thomas bryant at 12 mill.
Randle at 17 mill
Leaves about 7 mill and the room mle for good vets.

Smart/edwards/waters
Brown/romeo
Tatum/hayward/semi
Randle/williams/yabu
Bryant/williams

I’d prefer Randle at $17 million, Brogdon at $19 million, room MLE on Robin Lopez or someone like that that offers us some height and post defense.

Would Robin be attainable with the MLE?  I’ve always loved his rebounding and defense.

I get the feeling Ainge has a bigger move in place involving Horford's contract. Maybe not a free agent.

Had a scary trade idea that would make us a pretty tough out....Horford sign and trade and Smart for Capella and Paul..it works in trade machine and suddenly this is our lineup

Chris Paul
Brown
Tatum
Hayward
Capella

Also makes Rockets pretty good with much needed toughness....hmmmm...gulp.....

Great lineup and idea but no one gotta take Paul contract
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I sometimes get worried Danny still has a thing for Paul! Hope not though.

We got a future 1st out if that deal, too. I would never count out Danny when it comes to gaining assets
I'm bitter.

I don't understand what this accomplishes. It's going backwards, not forward. How many draft picks do we need? I understand the draft picks we got in the KG/Pierce deal because we traded two endearing but over the hill players for young talent which ended up being Tatum, Brown and the main trade chip in getting Kyrie Irving.

But now, it's time to end this stupid "accumulating assets" game and focus on making this team strong for the present and future. Otherwise, Ainge is even dumber than I thought (and that's saying something.)

He already tried this, thinking it would get him Anthony Davis and it blew up in his face. Those who don't learn from mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

Not to mention, this would be an AWFUL use of our cap space. What a dumb idea this would be!

Assets for what? To trade for for Anthony Davis? Oh wait.......

What do you mean character? We have a talent issue, not a character issue. We don't need guys to sing Kumbaya in the locker room. We need tougher players who won't back down from adversity.

There are guys who are tough on the court but also make for good teammates. Kyrie was just......in his own world.

Portis literally broke his teammate’s face sucker punching him in practice.  I might be wrong, but that makes for a pretty bad teammate.

To be fair Jordan punched Kerr in the face....But there is also a huge difference between Jordan and Portis, were Jordan wanted perfection from teammates and Portis is just a &$#’...
