I'm more and more convinced that we're aiming to land Russell in free agency.
With Phoenix now looking to be out of the running for him, the reports that Brooklyn will not keep Russell if they get Kyrie - even only Kyrie - our suddenly significant cap room that we've cleared up, and the fact that Russell is seemingly a good fit with the Jays and our current timeline, I think it makes a ton of sense. A Russell, Brown, Tatum, Hayward, Williams lineup would be extremely fun to watch and would be perfectly built as a run-and-gun team, which we've unfortunately gotten away from in recent years. Then you have the Russell Instagram picture tonight of Romeo being picked by the C's.
The only question would be solidifying the bigs. Would love to just forcefeed Williams minutes, as I think he has a ton of potential if he gets the chance. If we clear maximal cap space and sign Russell to the max, that'd leave us around $6M - $7M left in cap space, I believe. Maybe we could bring in a Dedmon/Davis type player as a backup big off the bench, too.
